Sent You Away~ All You Can Be
When Michelle (cat@hiley.demon.co.uk) wrote "Personal Assistant's
Plan/West Wing Assistant's Game" she speculated that Donna had
disposed of Mandy, hiding her body so effectively that nobody even noticed she'd gone. Separately, Shelley (kuebsr@yahoo.com) wrote "Does Anyone Really Miss Her?" in which Donna managed to enlist Mandy in the Israeli Army. We obviously saw this the same way. A writing partnership was born.
The Sent You Away series is a number of little fun ficlets, by Shelley
or Michelle, each with a basic premise. How did Donna dispose of Mandy? Motive? She might have several, but love for the Dimpled One is
probably reason enough.
By the way, these stories are pro-Donna. We both adore her, and our
sympathies are very much with her in this.
"I sent you away, oh Mandy." - Barry Manilow.
Disclaimer: The characters aren't mine and they never will be. That's
probably for the best. The story is mine though. If you want to
archive, please ask.
This little ficlet is a prequel to a story I wrote called Does
Anyone Really Miss Her?

All You Can Be

At first, I was kind of miffed that Josh sent me all the way to
Pennsylvania just to pick up some documents. I asked him why we couldn't just use the fax machine, or even a courier service, but
he insisted that they had to be picked up personally. I was upset
until I realized it was the golden opportunity I had been searching for. Sometimes fate just drops one right in your lap, you know what I mean?
It's a short flight from Dulles to Pittsburgh International Airport.
I don't know what I was expecting to see when I got there, but I was in for a surprise. Visions of those scenes from my grade school Social Studies textbooks that showed smoke stacks and the dirty air were all I could picture. But Pittsburgh isn't like that anymore. It really is a
beautiful city with a beautiful skyline.
It's also the location of the home office of Senator Rick Santorum.
Republican. A man who has hair that never moves, and perfect teeth. I find it hard to trust someone who has hair that never moves.
I rented a car and managed to find my way to Senator Santorum's office in Station Square. After picking up the papers as quickly as possible, I looked at my watch. A little over four hours remained until my return flight. Josh made a point of saying that I should visit the Warhol Museum or the Scaife Gallery while I was in town, but I had other
plans.
Armed with a map printed out from Mapquest, I headed north on I279.
Before long, the city was behind me and I was driving through the wooded suburbs.. It only took me a few minutes to locate my target. The Northland Public Library.
I pulled a manila folder out of my tote bag, locked the car, and went
inside. Luckily it wasn't very crowded. I told the woman at the desk that I needed to use a computer. She walked me over to an open cubicle and said that there was a one-hour time limit. No problem. This wouldn't take long.
I pulled out a sheet of paper that had Mandy's AOL screen name and
password information. I really hated breaking into AOL's database to get the information, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Just because I'm from a small town in Wisconsin, that doesn't mean I don't know a thing or two about procuring information. Some people call it "hacking" but I prefer to think of it as research.
I logged on under Mandy's screen name and set right to work. First
thing I did was check the airline records and confirm the exact time that her flight would be landing in Tel-Aviv. Perfect. One quick email and I arrange for her to be picked up at the airport. True she's being picked up by Israeli soldiers, but a ride's a ride.
Next I'm off to the Israeli Army database. Find the file of incoming
recruits. Intelligence Operatives trainees. There. Enter enlistee's name. Madeleine Hampton. Personal records. No problem.
I pull a disk out of the folder and insert it in the disk drive. I
downloaded all of Mandy's documentation from the White House Personnel records. Birth Certificate. Copy of Passport. Immunization records. Results of most recent physical. Ooops, gotta lay off the fried food,
Mandy. That cholesterol is a little high.
It only takes a few minutes to transfer all of Mandy's personal records to the file at Israeli Army Headquarters. Now for the letter. Dear Sirs...blah blah blah...looking forward to serving with you...blah blah blah...can't wait to arrive...etc..etc..
I thought the letter would be a nice touch. A good way to break the
ice.
There. Now they are expecting her. Madeleine Hampton has become the
newest recruit in the Israeli Army. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Yep. A few years with the toughest Army in the world will teach her
not to mess with other people's lives. I put up with anything she wanted to throw at me, but when she threatened Josh, it was time for her to go.
She's just angry because she finally realized that he doesn't love
her anymore. Hell, he probably never did. But she finally realized that it was over for good. So she started saying that she was going to destroy Josh. She was going to spread stories about him all over DC. She said that it wouldn't matter whether or not the stories were true. People would believe her because she was his ex-girlfriend, and because getting people to believe what she wanted them to believe was her field of expertise.
Well, there was just no way that I was going to allow that to happen.
And when Mandy announced that she was heading to Israel on a vacation, well, let's just say the pieces fell into place. I saw an opportunity and I seized it.
There is no way I am going to let a piece of work like Mandy Hampton
do anything to damage Josh's reputation. Protecting him is part of my job, and it's a part I take very seriously. If my watch is right, I still have three hours to get back to the airport. I'll be home by dinnertime. And Mandy's plane should be landing in Tel Aviv in about eight hours. Where several of her fellow soldiers will happily pick up the newest recruit and escort her to boot camp.
Her two years of service will be up before she manages to figure out
how she ever got herself enlisted.
On days like this, I just love the power of the internet.
And before you ask, the answer is NO. I don't feel one bit guilty.
Mandy could say anything she wanted about me, but she never should
have threatened Josh.
I simply can't allow that kind of thing to go unpunished.
