The Beginning

1968: Ali Vaziri was an amateur wrestler, winning a medal at the Olympic Games for his native Iran.

1972: Ali Vaziri defected to the United States, becoming an assistant wrestling coach for the U.S. Olympic Team.  Vaziri caught the eye of Verne Gagne at one of the training sessions, and later was brought to the American Wrestling Association.

1977: Defeated Rick Martel to win the NWA British Empire/Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship.  Ali Vaziri lost the title later in the year to Tommy Seigler.

April 18, 1978: Ali Vaziri and Bull Ramos defeated Jesse Ventura and Jerry Oates to win the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship.

June 10, 1978: Ali Vaziri and Bull Ramos lost the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship to Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka.

July 24, 1978: Ali Vaziri and The Texas Outlaw defeated Don Leo Jonathan and Jake Roberts in the finals of a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada tournament to win the NWA Canadian Tag Team Championship.

October 9, 1978: Ali Vaziri and The Texas Outlaw lost the NWA Canadian Tag Team Championship to Salvatore Martino and Mike Sharpe in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

1979: Ali Vaziri signed with the World Wide Wrestling Federation, wrestling as "The Great Hossein Arab" and managed by Freddie Blassie.

1980: Hossein Arab departs the WWWF to tour the Southern territories.

May 11, 1980: Defeated Jim Brunzell in Charlotte, North Carolina to win the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship.

May 25, 1980: Defeated Dewey Robertson in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to win the NWA Canadian Heavyweight Championship.

July 20, 1980: Lost the NWA Canadian Heavyweight Championship to Angelo Mosca in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

November 1, 1980: Lost the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship to Ricky Steamboat.

May 28, 1983: Defeated Ron Garvin in the finals of an Atlanta, Georgia tournament to win the NWA National Television Championship.

July 17, 1983: Lost the NWA National Television Championship to Ron Garvin in Atlanta, Georgia.

World Wrestling Federation

1983: Signed with the World Wrestling Federation, known as "The Iron Sheik".

December 26, 1983: Defeated Bob Backlund in New York, New York to win the WWF World Heavyweight Championship.

January 23, 1984: Lost the WWF World Heavyweight Championship to Hulk Hogan in New York, New York.  According to rumor, AWA promoter Verne Gagne offered The Iron Sheik $100,000 to legitimately break Hogan's leg during the match.

1984: The Iron Sheik engaged in a bloody feud with Sgt. Slaughter that spanned across the country.

March 31, 1985: The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff defeated Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham at WrestleMania in New York, New York to win the WWF World Tag Team Championship.

June 17, 1985: The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff lost the WWF World Tag Team Championship to The U.S. Express (Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham) in Poughkeepsie, New York.

May 26, 1987: The Iron Sheik and Jim Duggan were arrested by New Jersey police.  The Sheik was charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine and recieved one year probation.  On television, the two were feuding with each other, and this incident exposed the business.

1988: The Iron Sheik leaves the WWF, making brief appearances in the AWA and NWA.

Bouncing Back And Forth

1991: Returns to the WWF as Col. Mustafa, an Iraqi sympathizer aligned with Sgt. Slaughter and Gen. Adnan.  Later in the year, Mustafa and Adnan would turn on Slaughter and rekindle the feud between the two.

March 21, 1993: Defeated Tommy Dreamer in Burlington, Vermont to win the CWA Heavyweight Championship.

October 23, 1993: Lost the CWA Heavyweight Championship to Vic Steamboat in Wakefield, Massachusetts.

February 1997: Returned to the WWF to manage The Sultan.

December 27, 1997: Defeated Timber in Fayetteville, North Carolina to win the NWA 2000 American Heritage Heavyweight Championship.

March 7, 1998: Lost the NWA 2000 American Heritage Heavyweight Championship to Eddie Brown in Hope Mills, North Carolina.

April 1, 2001: Won the Gimmick Battle Royal at WWF WrestleMania X-Seven, reigniting his feud with Sgt. Slaughter in the process.
