Dehino'sminytha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara |
Tatha dehantarapraptirdirastatara na muhyati ||

Just as boyhood, youth and old age are attributes to the soul through this body, even so it attains another body. The wiseperson does not get deluded about this.
Bhagwadgita...chapter 2/13

~click to read online Bhagwadgita~

The Bhagwatgita contains the dialogue between Lord Krishna and mighty bowman Arjuna on the sacred battel field of Kurukshetra. These are the divine words emanating from the lips of Lord Krishna. As a scripture the Gita embodies the supreme spritual mystery and secret. It contains the essence of all the four Vedas. Bhagwatgita is only book in the world of spritual field that has something to offer to everyone. You may be on the path of meditation...service or devotion. Massage of this book is for humanity as a whole..it is beyond caste colur creed and country. In chapter 2 couplet 13 Lord Krishna says to Arjuna - See for yourself of sonm of Kunti, you was a child, then a youth and now a man....it your body that is getting aged day by day not your soul. These stages of body are nothing but atrributes of that soul.Very pregnant words with deep meaning Let us meditate on them.
Let us understand few things.
Have you seen that body change but the witness who was there inside you when you was a child, a youth....an adult and in old age is same. It has not changed. So it should be clear that the soul and the body are diffrent though they are connected to each other. We say my head is paining not that I am paining. Head is mine but I am not the head..body is mine but I am not the body. We say donkey is mine(but I am not the donkey)....car is mine (but I am not the car)what will you think of a person who says I am car or i am donkey. What is difference between car and its driver, such is the diffrence between soul and the body. Problem arise when people starts to think that they are body alone or that body and soul are same entities.Wrong understanding of this couplet often lead some people to condemn body. This attitudes also is very unwise, body is nothing but visible soul and soul is nothing but invisible body. Body should be treated just as nothing much nothing less.
It is nothing but a midium for this soul. If we understand this we will know also that body is mortal and soul is immortal....dust unto dust. Lord himself says in Bhagwatgita that this body is nothing but cloth of this soul.and soul change it like we change our cloths after they became old. It travels from body to body governed by the law of karma. So' L0rd Krishna tell us here that body is something which goes under change and not the soul. Where as these diffrent stages of the body are nothing but the attributes
assigned to soul. Who realise this is a wise person. Lord Krishna does not say a wise person one who can perform tricks. One who can make things vanish or make things appear out of thin air, He says that wiseperson is one who realise this fact. One whi is disillusioned by the changes in the body is wiseperson. We are deluded that we are the body but we should become awaree of the witness who see these changes yet he does not change. In fact nothing changes except change.. So' this witness is real I ....real me.....

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his for my sake, the same shall save it.
Bible,Luke.9/24

Jesus says - Save and you will lose. Let us look at our whole life, we keep on saving and saving and what happens ultimately death takes it all away. We lose everything but one who is ready to lose everything saves in inner world saves. When we prepare ourself to lose a miracle happens. In that opening God enters and we are saved. Looks paradoxical, but it is simple truth. Look at seed in the soil. To become a tree seed has to die...has to lose itself and is thus saved. But if the seed protects itself...saves itself..it will never become tree, it will never bear fruits, it will never see the joy of flowers. As far as the seed is concerned it is loosing itself as seed but but it is saved and it gives birth to thousand seeds like itself...in loosing thousand fold is given back. Same is applicabe to us. It is perfect death which can make us immortal...it death of Jesus the son of Joseph..and Christ is born. Be ready to die as Siddhartha son of king and you will be born as Gautam the Buddha. This new man ..is beyond our imagination.because if you can imagine him, it is your continuity. It will be your projection. Seed can never imagine beyond its seedness.
But whosoever will lose life for my sake....
Why does Lord says - for my sake ? Now Look at this dialeama...if we are born as new man who is going to to act as bridge because if we do it for our sake it will be our continuity...New will never be new it will be old modified as new. So' the master becomes the bridge. Master will be there to help you die silently. Master will hepl your past die and he will be the witness to your new birth. So Jesus said - Don't be worried, you relax...for my sake. Another thing if you find master , who is ready to make you new ..give you new birth on your terms...beware....A real master says...for my sake...Do this on my terms. If a master gives you something on your terms...it will just be lubricant to your present sufferings...it can never bring you to state of no suffering...your trmes only make you sleep deeper. Real master always wants total commitment... thats why religion can never , a philosophy: it will never become theology...a dabate.....True nature of religion forbades it. It will always remain trust. If you trust....
" for my sake"...then come and die and you will be ressurected.

Kabir says.......

There's a moon in my body ...
There's a moon in my body, but I can't see it!
A moon and a sun.
A drum never touched by hands, beating, and I can't hear it!
As long as a human being worries about when he will die,
and what he has that is his,
all of his works are zero.
When affection for the I-creature and what it owns is dead,
then the work of the Teacher is over.
The purpose of labor is to learn;
when you know it, the labor is over.
The apple blossom exists to create fruit; when that
comes, the petal falls.
The musk is inside the deer, but the deer does not
look for it:
it wander around looking for grass.

Kabir was a mystic who was born in India during the Bhakti movement. It is said that no one knows about his birth and neither this that weither he was Hindu or Moslem....He said that it is knowing that is important not the reading of the scriptures or acquiring knowledge. One of his famous saying often quoted during conversatataion is " One who has learned text after text of scriptures is not a wise man but he is wisemanwho has learned two and half word of prema(love)". Another point worth mentioning here is that he never gave his teachings in form of speech but poems or couplets. To be alive towards God is to move into poetry comman language is useful only conveying mundane thoughts...but to convey that which is bliss....poetry enters. It is not that Kabir knowingly spoke always in poems "dohas" but because the very idea was so abstract hence poetry. Poetry is the rainbow bridge between man and God; man as mind and God as mystery. That which can be said can be said through prose...what about that which cannot be said if you don't have poetry? These small poems of Kabir are not of great poetic value, yet they potray for us a deep sincerity, too honest to be a great lyrical poet. The purpose is not poetry. The purpose is to convey something that cannot be coveyed through ordinary language. The poetry is being used as a veichel, remember it. Dont think in terms of literature; think in terms of ecstacy. There are moments when laughter says much more than words . There are moments when tears says much more than words. There are moments when gestures speaks volumes. All the laughter, all the tears, all the gestures, silence, they are contained in the second language - the language of poetry. This man Kabir was strange master. A man of religiousness is bound to be strange, because he lives in a totaly diffrent way, he lives in seprate reality; a diffrent dimension. He lives in this world but untouched , uncontaminated unpoluted by it. he does not escape from this world . He lives here and lives in such a way that he is untouchable. He lives in the ordinary world in extraordinary way. a man of realisation, a man who has understood makes no diffrences. Distincition are lost, division disappear. All boundaries becomes meaningless. A man of realisation starts living in unboundede, in the infinite.
Now these dohas,(couplets).....

There's a moon in my body ...
There's a moon in my body, but I can't see it!
A moon and a sun.

Each word has to be penetrated with deep sympathy. Kabir says there's Moon...why moon? Because we have the inner quality of moon; people like Buddha , people like Krishna , people like Kabir have known there is inner Moon. You must have ever seen the light of Moon. It is soothing. Same way the inner glow they have known has the glow of moon light..it is very bright like Sun's but have coolness of Moon's rays. But we cannot see...until we dive deep. A Moon and ..and there is Sun too..
We start our journey with Sun qualtiy....agrressive...hot like fire...a quality of revoloutionary...Mostly the bible is about the Jesus who is in the Sun phase....but the day he said on the cross - "Let thy be done". He entered the moon phase. Kabir is saying about the ying and yang of inner body as known in Taoism. He is talking about the inner man and woman. To see them we have to dive deep inside ourself. Look at the statue of Buddha, a painting of krishna palying flute...you may have the glimps of moon inside...the calmness...the soothing vibration engulfs you.

A drum never touched by hands, beating, and I can't hear it!
As long as a human being worries about when he will die,
and what he has that is his,
all of his works are zero

Kabir says drum that is untouched by hand, yet it is beating...He is talking about the inner sound which is beating rythumically. Ordinarily we hear sound only when drum is touched by hand. Kabir is talking about the celestial music inside us. Yet we cannot hear it. Again he urges us to dive deep inside us. It is in the relam of inner world we hear the 'anahat nad' the divine sound of "AUM". That sound which Zen masters describes as the sound of one handed clap. Sound which is primaordal. Sound which bible says....in the begining there war word. Kabir says...sound of drum, created without any friction.
Now science also agrees that everything is not only matter it is more subtle that that it is energy...in the form of waves ...waves of sound. When all the noise in us cease we hear the inner sound of drum which is beating, untouched by hand.

As long as a human being worries about when he will die,
and what he has that is his,
all of his works are zero

Kabir goes one step ahead and opens the gate to reasons which hinders us from seeing that Sun and moon. He explains why we are unable to hear that celestial music of drum inside us. He says as long as we worry...he hits the root cause. All our running in life is due to fear. Fear of death
Fear against which we build house, fear against which we creat bank balances. Fear against which always ignore ourself. So' that somehow we win over death...but alas ! empty handed we go.
It is said that when Alexander was on his death bed he asked his advisers to do a thing for him. He said.-" when you take me for cremenation...keep my hands out of casket.. ..hanging." They were puzzled what a strange request. He expalined " I want to let this world know that this Alexander the Great, who wanted to conqure the world is leaving this world empty handed"....We worry whole life for what is our...or home ...our car..or family..our country..our class...community..religion...O! my dear friend
when has anything become yours. When you are not of yours, how can other things be yours. kabir says As long as this continues.....all your work is zero. You have not even moved a single step towards that inner Sun and moon...you have not even known the alpha of that sound....you are standing at zero.
Red with devotion, sharp attention, deep rapport. When affection for the I-creature...we are always centered in this I..or rather we should say these I'es. We are not one I but made of many I'es...we are one I when we are at the office, another when I am a father another I when I am a christian...list goes on and on...He says when this affection for Iness drops and what this I owns is dead then the work of the teacher is over. It is over indeed. Master is needed only till you dont realise. master is only needed to wake you up from this slumber of I-ness. In ancient Japan in Zen monasteries it is said thatwhen a new deciple comes to learn....He is given a mat which he unfolds in front of master. He comes and learn everyday...but the mat remains unfoldede. He lives there works there but that mat is left unfolded...Masters tells him first day - "Look eh!! live this mat here, you dont have to fold it every day and the day you get realised just fold it and keep it along the wall and go away without saying anything."It will be sign that you have realised; and moreover who is going to bow to who, who is going to thank who, why say the job has finised...What can one Buddha say to another Buddha.....kabir says the work of the teacher is over..the mat is folded. Iness dissolves and the possesiveness about what I own goes.

The purpose of labor is to learn;
when you know it, the labor is over.
The apple blossom exists to create fruit; when that
comes, the petal falls.

The purpose of labour is....we are in so much of pain. We have to go through all this labour from our birth till our death. Why? The only reason we are in this pain and labour Kabir says is that it is there to teach us a lesson. We have to go through all this pain just to learn something and the day you know this I am in pain, I am in labour due to my ingnorance...you become wise indeed. When you know that all this pain is there to teach you....you becomes pain's deciple and you starts to learn the profound lessons of life. And a miracles happenes that labour which was there to teach...vanish, it stops , it is over. This pain brings you to the present, it tells you to get up and walk...it tells you wake up! form this nightmare of sleep.

The apple blossom exists to create fruit; when that
comes, the petal falls.

Here he wish to convey the deep meaning of existence that we are like apple blossom, we exist to become as fruit...when the fruit comes the petals of the flower falls and they fall just to give way to, space to the fruitfullness. Same way when we reach our inner flowering and then bear fruits within.....and the petals of Iness, petals of possesiveness, petals of mine and thine...falls.

The musk is inside the deer, but the deer does not
look for it:
it wander around looking for grass.

How beautifully Kabir describes our state in this world. He says we are like a deer who has mush in its navel..but alas!
he does not know that such a precious thing is inside his body. It is said that when the musk inside deer's navel raptures it make deer wild with its smell and deer runs around in jungel in the search of the source of the smell..and dies after running for long time with frenzy.Same way we have that which we search outside, inside us. But the source of joy, peace, is inside us....A stry from Rabia a mystic makes it clear..One fine morning Rabia was searching something, outside her hut. A fellow villager came and asked - What are you searching Rabia? Rabia said - I have lost my neddle. "I see" said the country lad. "But where did you loose it"...she said.."I lost it in my house", That lad laughed and said - "But then How will you find it outside". Rabia said... "but are not all people doing the same..dear. They are searching outside what they have lost inside". Kabir says the deer has a precious thing like musk in his navel but he is always after insignificant thing like grass. So my dear friend. are we not like the deer. We have Sun and Monn inside us. We have a richness of emperoro inside but look at us..we are all beggers outside. Are we all not wandering whole life like deer...after money, power, position, just like he does wanders after grass. So no wander if our life has no fragrance of musk...are you wandering for grass too?

At last I bow to the soul in you all. I may be wrong somewhere...after all I am punny man. so' please forgive me. I stand to be corrected.
