This 1994 recording is a great introduction to Otis Rush. Despite being an album consisting mainly of covers this doesn't really matter with Otis Rush - people buy his cd's as much for his great voice and guitar playing as his ability as a songwriter.

Although, that said, Otis Rush was the man responsible for writing blues classics such as 'All Your Love', 'So Many Roads' and 'I Can't Quit You Baby'.

The album starts with the Albert King song, 'Don't Burn Down The Bridge' which is a great, up tempo, song to get the listener in the mood for some of the other stuff to follow.  Indeed, things follow a similar vein up to track 4 at which point the tempo changes.

It is at this point the listener is treated to the first foray into the realms of slow blues with the classic Ray Charles song, 'A fool For You'.  Otis Rush seems clearly at ease playing both the up tempo and slower songs.  However, I think it is this latter category that shows off his talent to the greatest effect and it's not long before we are once again taken down this road.

Track 6 has Otis playing the Percy Mayfield song, 'My Jug and I' which is one of my favourites on this cd.  The next track, another slow/medium blues leads us into, in my opinion, the best track on the cd.

Track 8 is the B.B. King masterpiece, 'It's My Own Fault' and has Rush belting out powerful vocals coupled with soulful guitar.  Difficult as it may seem for anyone to better the original B.B. King recording, this does get you thinking.

All in all, this cd is a mixture of new and old songs which show Otis Rush's versatility as both a great singer and guitar player. Personally I prefer the slower songs on this recording but if you think different drop us a line.
