Union Tactics in this representation election. The BLET will tell you what we will do to enhance your lifestyle with contractual improvements. We will show you the benefits we have secured for our engineer members and we will get some of those same benefits for our conductor/brakemen members once we win the election. The BLET on Norfolk Southern does not rely on our national union for our agreements. We have gained far superior benefits by negotiating on-property. The UTU will tell you nothing about what they can do to improve your lifestyle with contractual improvements. Why? Because they are incapable. The UTU has continually short-changed their post-85 members. That will not change. That is their mindset. They bragged about getting rid of step rates. They lied. All new hires after July 1, 2004 start at 75% under UTU. They will continually try to fill you with b.s. that happened before a lot of you were even born. Who cares about what happened 40 years ago. People change. Unions change. Ask that UTU rep to talk about today. That is what is important. Ask him totalk about our unions on the NS. Who cares about some rinky-dink railroad out west? I seriously doubt that you will get an educated answer to the questions you present to your UTU rep. Good luck. Reason number 1 why the BLET on Norfolk Southern is going to pursue a Representation Election is so that our conductors and brakemen will receive the representation that they deserve. The UTU has failed miserably, but we will more than happy to fix their mistakes.
