Norfolk Southern Update: Is a representation election on NS really necessary? All crafts will benefit when the BLET negotiates on behalf of every operating employee. Engineers will see enhanced benefits added to their agreement well before the present one expires. Conductors and brakemen...try this on for size. How would you like to add $4000 to your present earnings, right away? A 'YES' vote for the BLET will get you $30 weekend/holiday pay and $18 meal allowance.
Reason number 8 why the BLET on Norfolk Southern is going to pursue a Representation Election is because our conductors and brakemen deserve the $30 weekend/holiday pay and the $9/$18 meal allowance. Don't kid yourself for a moment. The UTU cannot get you those benefits. They rely on their national union for contracts. UTU national has to deal with the National Carriers Conference Committee which represents many railroads across the country. Those railroads are not going to give the UTU a $4000 per year per employee raise when they know that they don't have to do it. On the other hand, the BLET on Norfolk Southern negotiates on-property. We have those two benefits in hand and waiting for our conductors and brakemen.
