UTU Local Representatives just don't get it. They continually try to enlighten our operating employees with their slant on what is happening with everything in the rail industry that they feel casts a negative light on the BLET. Of late, that includes the Montana Rail Link, UP and the Teamsters. Don't you find it just a bit curious as to why those same UTU Representatives don't have much to say about the BLET on the NS? It may be because they know that we can secure some benefits for members we represent that the UTU can only dream about. I just got a $4000 raise with weekend/holiday pay and our $18 meal allowance. We want our fellow conductors and brakemen to have that same benefit. The BLET will get it for you. The UTU is still in left field. The BLET negotiates directly with NS. The UTU relies on their International Union for their agreements. That is the same union that keeps moving its presidents from Cleveland to a federal prison. Ask those Reps to talk about the two unions on Norfolk Southern. That is where YOU work. Tell them to quit acting like a car salesman who is trying to sell you on a Ford by telling you how lousy a Chevrolet is. If they cannot sell you on the UTU by proving how good they are, then it may be time for you to go to another car lot. On the NS, the BLET doesn't have to resort to such tactics.
