Effective April 30, 2004, engineers will no longer be able to participate in the TRIP 401k. You must enroll in the BLET 401k with Merrill Lynch. You may leave your current investment in TRIP, but, no further contributions may be made to that plan. Or you can transfer your TRIP investments into the BLET 401k without penalty or tax consequences.

Canadian Pacific Election

Meet UTU's Byron Boyd, Martha Stewart's new roomie.

Joke of the day.

An AGS District UTU conductor recently tried to convince one of our BLET engineers to rejoin the UTU. His main argument was that this engineer should belong to a union with integrity. Under what rock has this guy been hiding. The UTU has insurance salesmen, a past president and a sitting president on their way to federal prison for racketeering. If that's integrity, maybe we should steer clear of it. Also, UTU President Byron "the crook" Boyd's replacement, Paul Thompson has had charges filed against him from within their union of integrity. UTU MEMBERS

Are you willing to …

  • …believe the UTU propaganda machine that put out a flyer that looks similar to this one? Not just one, but, every single paragraph in their flyer is a lie! Who in their right mind would entrust their future in the rail industry with union representatives that are so dishonest with their own membership?
  • …give up the right to negotiate your Agreement before 2010? (a lie) The Railway Labor Act provides that your agreement will be transferred to a representation election winner in tact, with NO changes. That is the law.
  • …give up your 9 ˝ % wage increase? (another lie) There cannot be any roll backs. Remember the Railway Labor Act? That is the law.
  • …give up your 48 cent COLA? (another lie) same answer as above.
  • …give up your right to participate in the NS 401K program? (another lie) Remember this. Your 401K plan is not a contractual benefit. NS, at their discretion, could change it or simply discontinue it. The BLET 401K is a contractual benefit. It cannot be altered without our approval.
  • …give up your $13 to $15 per day raise to get weekend pay or bonus program? (another lie) Railway Labor Act? Law? Those pay increases remain in tact. We gave up absolutely nothing for the weekend/holiday pay. The bonus plan? That is an engineer benefit. If your craft wants it, it would have to be negotiated and approved by your craft after your current agreement expires. It would not affect your wage increases from a previous agreement.

Are these BLET campaign promises

worth leaving the UTU?

· $2000 Signing Bonus

How ignorant. That was for the last engineers contract. It has absolutely nothing to do with any other craft, now or in the future.

· Thoroughbred Performance Bonus

Again, how ignorant. The bonus plan is a benefit in the engineers agreement. It has nothing to do with another craft. If you want it after the election, your craft would have to approve it. By the way, I received a $10,200 bonus in 2004. Next year, it should be about $12,000.

· Weekend/Holiday Differential

There they go again. There is no wage roll back. The BLET got this extra pay and gave up nothing in return. By the way, I average $360 per month weekend pay. That amounts to over $4000 per year.

· Increased Meal Allowance

Only $450 per year? Not quite. Take your total meal allowance from last year, multiply it by 50%. That is what you can expect. My increase comes up to $702 per year.

· $15/.15 Special Pay Differential

Good grief UTU. That has and will have absolutely nothing to do with a conductor.

· Your UTU rep left this one out. After the election, the BLET will eliminate the UTU contractual provision that allows the carrier to dismiss you from the company if you fail the engineer promotion.

Yes, it would be worth it. www.blet73.com
