The August Labor/Management meeting at Norris Yard covered several local issues that needed addressing.

It was requested that Superintendent Murray do something about continual agreement violations instigated by the Chief Dispatcher's office concerning crew management.  The following items were presented for Mr. Murray's handling:

Improperly deadheading pool crews on a carded assignment's schedule, specifically in 393's window

Hand picking crews for trains, specifically doubling the second out pool turn back to Norris and sending the first out pool turn to the Chattanooga motel for rest

Improperly maintained Cimmaron vans.  It was requested that van audits be more discriminating.  If its computer indicated brake or airbag trouble, take them out of service for repair.  It is up to us to demand that these vans be in proper working condition.  If you note that something is wrong, report it immediately and if need be, request a replacement van.

Dangerous deadhead drivers.  I told Mr. Murray that the most dangerous aspect of my job as an engineer is deadheading with Cimmaron.  Some drivers are not competent to be driving these vans.  They are absolutely dangerous.  Others are reporting to work without adequate rest.  They are falling asleep at the wheel and endangering our lives.  Again, it is up to us to remedy this situation.  We are our own worst enemy regarding this situation.  We are in a hurry to get to the deadhead point and do not want to accept the delay of waiting on a replacement driver.  That has to stop.  Pull off the interstate and call the chief.  You may get delayed, but you'll still be alive.

Your ideas are important.  If you want them to be considered, we have to first be aware of them.  These Labor/Management meetings are held quarterly.  The next one will be late November or early December.
