Creative Weapons - posted by Dr.Haggard @ 23:06

Go to top

As you may know, Blade's incredibly realistic engine will allow players to pick up almost any object in the game and use it as a weapon. This feature could certainly come in handy at difficult times. But what sort of objects are you likely to find lying around the place? Chairs, tables, torches? Rocks perhaps?
But how about limbs, recently amputated from your last unfortunate foe?
Yes, Blade apparently has a system already implemented that makes it possible to pick up a Traitor Knight's amputated arm, for instance, and beat his friend to death with the wet end (please address letters of complaint for that last sentence to dr.haggard@blade-universe.com).
However, it has become apparent during discussions on the Rebel Act Forums that this feature may have to be left out of the final game, at least in the international version.
Now some people may not miss it if it isn't there, but if anyone would really like to be able to try out this feature, even if it's not enabled by default, I suggest using the comments feature below this news item by way of a friendly petition. It may not do any good but it's worth a try :-)

Now you people got the first voice from me for that thing with the beating limbs. That's the coolest feature I can think of used in a game! It would be silly not to include it in a game where violence is shown so frankly. After all, it's always the same problem with showing blood, dismembering or decapitating, but if these things are seen in a game as Blade, why exclude using limbs? It's not that we're gonna do so in reality with our little sister! So please include this feature!

PLEASE!!! Dont eliminate this feature!! If you worry about the little ones seeing it just allow it to be disabled. But my god what a stress reliever after a hard day at work.

Sure would be a whole lot of fun, so please, whoever the new publisher is, include this feature!

Well you can forget about doing it in Germany, but hey I'm in the States. SO you had better put that puppy in there. I can't think of anything more fun than bowling with the head of an enemy. I just had a drive by happen last week at the apartment complex up the street, so any violence you out in this game will pale compared to where I live. Besides I'm not allowed to shoot back, so I need something to take my anger out on.

I have to say I'd like this feature to be there even if it was just an option or a console-activated feature or whatever.
But clubbing enemies with bloody limbs aside, I'm a little worried about the gore in general being toned down.
We all know about Germany, but I certainly hope they don't have to leave ANYTHING out for the rest of us!
Surely the game isn't THAT bad is it?
Bloodier (and far less ethically sound) games have been released in the US and UK (Soldier of Fortune anyone?).

Not to mention the Carmageddon line of games! (really fun games though he he)

btw...wasn't those games almost banned in U.K. Dr.H? I vagely remember that the uk version had zombies instead of humans in it.

You know, in Diablo2 you can pick up...um...that-guy-from-Diablo1's leg, in Tristram, and use it as a weapon! Perhaps a really lousy example, but hey...it's the same pricipal :-)

Yeah I think you might be right about Carmageddon actually, though I've never played it. Doesn't appeal to me at all.
I don't think that weakens the argument at all though; Blade, even if this feature is left in, is tame compared to that, AND it's in a fantasy setting! There's no justification for censoring it in this country.
Never played Diablo, but I'm considering buying Diablo 2, the reviews haven't been great but it still sounds pretty good.

Hey guy's... c'mon!! That feature is absolutely great! It belongs and diservses to be in Blade! I mean... you can chop off the head, arms, legs, etc. and if a fight starts the area is totaly full of blood! You can use an axe or sword to chop off pieces of the body from an enemy and use bashing weapons to make bloody paper of those basterds! So don't say that using limbs is too ' killerfull'!! By the way, if people don't want to have that feature in the game... just let them go to ' options' and turn it off! Pfff... I'm done, bye! ;)
