New Poll - posted by Warlock @ 1:28

Go to top

I've put up a new question for you in our poll, asking (naturally) what your impressions were with the new Blade video. If you havn't seen it yet, I strongly recommend you to click your way to our downloads section and pick it up - you won't regret it!

I hate to say this but...
Tho' I still think the game looks good. The first movie had an atmosphere, a richness and softness in color, that is completely lacking in the second movie. It just didn't LOOK as good. Has anybody else noticed this?

The old movie showed only one level; the first one if you play as the Knight. There were lots of exterior scenes in this new one, and it focused a lot more on the action part. It shifts scenes fast to show very different aspects of the game. In the old one you followed the Knight through much longer sequences and it showed a lot of the enviroment interaction. Also, I think the gamma in the new one was perhaps a bit high.

Well, first the video :
Warlock descripts it perfectly : It kicks serious ass !
And there's nothing more to say about
Now the game itself has to be played.
But here is the problem : will it be played by as many people as it deserves ( at least ,that's what the video makes me think ).
This game seems to be THE GAME of those past ten years, i'm really serious !

So what about marketing ?
What about communication ?
Why don't we already see this video available for download on all major video game websites , like 3D FILES, or at DAILY RADAR, or FASTEST GAME NEWS ONLINE - they relea do what their name means ! -

Accordingto me, it's utter MADNESS that Warlock has to write :
" Spread the word and tell all your friends about it, 'cause this is a game no one deserved to miss out!"

What kind of sick joke is this ???
Of course this game has to be know by the entire gamers community, so what's the problem with massive worldwide communication so far ?

I can only see the following reasons, and they're not funny at all :

1 / Gameplay
The game is in fact a real shit.
Solo mode sucks and multiplayer makes you feel like tossing a war-axe in the head of
the writer of the network code.
Everyone who played it got an ass-ache and never wanted to hear about it anymore,
especially if the "everyone" was a big publisher.
And people who played it where even more pissed of by the crappy gameplay because
they were all so pumped up by the videos

2 / Marketing

Rebel Act Studios didn't sign any major publisher yet !
And that could be because of reason #1 !

Or maybe RAS believe so strongly in the new economic model of the internet that they
believe they decided to distribute BLADE the ID Software old-day's way (shareware !)

Or even worse : RAS already signed a publisher, but it's sucks so big that it
decided to allocate BLADE a marketing budget as high as the publisher's boss winings
at his next week end's casino night ! - and to hell with Blade if he goes broke!

You all may think i'm on crack, but i can resume my bitter feelings in one question :

HOW THE HELL IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A NEARLY FINISHED GAME - ILLUSTRATED BY A VIDEO LIKE THE ONE WE'VE JUST GOT - IS NOT ALREADY WORLDWIDE HYPER MARKETED ?

Man, BLADE is the game that - if it plays like it looks - would make me forget Diablo 2 , Baldur's Gate 2, Wizardry 8 and Morrowind put together !

But I'm REALLY afraid that's something wrong going on...

Ho, and what about my favorite scene ? Here it is :
It's when this french guy gets a call from his video game shop telling him they received Blade. He rushed with his motorbike to the shop, buys 20 Blade boxes, rushes back at his pc gaming hall, installs it on it's 20 networked PCs, and finds out that BLADE really kicks serious ass ! )

Comments really welcome !

You have pointed out some important stuff here Alex and hopefully Juan will comment on it.

However I can go good for the gameplay, bacause it really is as kick-ass good as it looks!

There is some sad happenings going on in the PC gaming industry that is very destructive for game developers and publishers, so I believe it is not an easy task Rebel Act is facing. Please read this article at Daily Radar:

http://www.dailyradar.com/columns/game_column_181.html

It refelcts many of my own concerns lately, like the fact that Looking Glass studios closed, publishers forced to merge with the giants etc. This is, as mentioned in the article, damaging to the PC games industry as a whole and for us, the consumers...
