When I was writing
up Innocence Lost I wanted Frink to give Caroline a unique,
creative and romantic proposal. It had to be something he made
himself, something difficult and something that would only have
meaning to a fellow scientist like her. This is one of the sections
of the story that I was actually stuck on because I had no idea
what that would be. I'd been going through my microbiology books
though and then the thought hit me of a custom made slide formed
from bacteria. It seemed like something he would do and definitely
something he'd be proud of. Had I been Caroline I would have been
impressed. This one was fun and easy to draw because of all the
basic shapes.
