Well so much for
Bart. Richard would no longer be his friend. The two didn't
have anything in common anyway. It had all been one big waste
of time. It was a new school day and he lifted his hand up for
the door knob of his classroom. He turned it and went inside
only to hear Bart exclaim, "Look everyone there he is. The
kid that's too good for us!" Soon the whole class was yelling.
"Rich Kid! Rich Kid! Rich Kid!"
Max sat at the back of the class watching quietly as always.
Luckily he hadn't gotten into too much trouble over the mudman
incident and his father wasn't upset with him. It seemed that
Richard was the one that got off the worst from this incident.
Richard threw his head back proud ignoring the mob and struted
over to his seat. They'd be sorry they messed with him, perhaps
not now, but later they would be.
The day had been
long and Richard walked along the long orange wall of the school
on his way home. He had his hands in his pickets and a frown
on his face. He was bent over kicking his feet as walked when
he heard a gruff voice behind him.
"Well if it isn't the Rich Kid!" Richard turned and
found himself face to face with Nelson Muntz the school bully.
Nelson was a large pudgy kid, with shoulder length stringy brown
hair. He always wore a bluish grey vest over his T-shirt and
shorts. Nelson's teeth stuck out in all directions giving the
boy a menacing look. He had always sat directly behind Richard
and never paid him any mind before, what could he possibly want?
Richard faced him with his arms crossed.
"What is it, Nelon?" He said annoyed that this gorilla
was taking up his valuble time.
"I've never beaten up a rich kid before. I bet they have
a lot more lunch money. So hand it over Rich Boy, NOW!"
Said Nelson threatening him with a waving fist.
"What? No way!" Said Richard defiantely.
"OK." Said Nelson calmly and raised his fist again.
Richard turned to run, but Nelson was incredibly fast for his
size. He caught up to him, grabbed Richard by the shoulder and
pulled back on him throwing him against the wall. It felt like
his back would shatter. Richard sat dazed against the wall when
Nelson's shadow crept over him. He was relentless, first a fist
across his face, then one in the gut followed by a kick in the
back. Richard fell to the ground as his feet were swept from
under him and then it all seemed like on big mound of pain. He
couldn't tell where Nelson was striking him as he passed out.
Satisfied that his victim had had enough Nelson reached into
his pockets and found his prize.
"Woe, jack pot! Well, I'll be seeing you tomorrow then."
He said happily as his found a good sum of cash, then left Richard
face down on the ground.
The school ground
was quiet and the wind blew softly causing the grass to bend.
Maximillian had stayed behind to work on a project and stepped
out into the setting sunlight on his way home. As he passed by
the infamous wall he saw the form of a fallen boy. Curious he
tilted his head to one side then ran over to see who it was.
Max placed a hand on his shoulder. The boy didn't move. Concerned
he turned him over and saw it was Richard. The poor kid had nasty
bruises all over his face and a fair sized gash over his left
eye. This was clearly the work of Nelson Muntz. Max reached
into his backpack. He kept rubbing alcohol in a small chemistry
kit that he carried with him. He poured some into a cloth and
rubbed it on Richard's cuts. Better now that he was unconscience
so he wouldn't feel the sting. Richard's eyes tightened. He
obviously felt something and was beginning to awake. Max placed
the cloth under his nose hoping the strong scent would bring him
around. A few seconds later his eyes opened. Max reached under
his neck and sat him up.
"Are you alright?" Asked Max genuinely concerned.
"Oh." Said Richard as he held his head. Disoriented
he looked around confused not exactly sure where he was. "Where
am I?"
"You're still at school. Nelson got you didn't he?"
Max said. Richard nodded affirmitively. "Well don't worry,
you'll be alright now."
"Why are you being so nice to me?" Asked Richard completely
perplexed by Max's generosity.
"I've been beaten up by Nelson too. I hate seeing it happen
to others." He helped Richard to his feet.
"Um, well thank you. You're Maximillian, right?" Asked
Richard.
"Yeah, but call me Max."
"Ok, Max. I'm Richard. Listen, about the incident with
the mud man. I'm, I'm sorry I was mean to you." Richard
was very proud and it was difficult for him to appologize to anyone
for anything, but he knew if Max hadn't come along he might have
woken up on that lawn the following morning. Max smiled back
at him and accepted his appology.
Frink sat at the table of a small cafe. He sipped on a cup of hot coffe and thought about Frink Laboratories. He couldn't believe that he owned them now. After the Observatory was burned down by an angry mob it was rebuilt outside the city. As a child he would go to the Observatory often and the whole staff had gotten to know him. Now that he was a reputable scientist the town decided that no one was more qualified than the Professor to run the new Observatory or what he renamed Frink Laboratories. It was a dream come true and now he worked right along side his wife. It really was a family business now. He sipped the coffee again and realized that there still wasn't enough sugar in it. Frink stood and walked to the back to get a few more packs when he felt a tap on the should and heard a gruff voice say, "Frink?"
He turned and
came face to face with a thick frightening face. The man's hair
was grey and he smiled at Frink with a nasty row of square teeth.
Frink recognized him instantly as his old high school bully.
"AAHH!! Sharky, I..I..how...you.."
"Relax Frink!" He said with a hearty laugh. Frink
was pressed against the counter trying to put as much distance
between him and the bully as well possible in the small confine.
Frink shut his eyes, but nothing happened. He opened one eye,
then the other.
"Relax? Um hay, you aren't going to beat me up?" He
asked timidly.
"Beat you up? No. I don't do that anymore. Goodness, it's
been years since I've seen you. Listen, I want to appologize
for the way I treated you in the past. I hadn't expected you
to react with utter fright when I tapped you, but then I guess
that's all I ever showed you back in school. Can we put that
behind us and be friends?" He asked placing his hand out
in a friendly hand shake. Frink loosened up at last and gladly
took his hand.
"Zoi!! Of course, Sharky! I'd love to be friends."
He said enthusiastically with a huge toothy smile. Sharky couldn't
help but laugh.
"Well, I guess you can call me Jake now." He turned
around and pointed to a huge bald spot where his shark fin used
to be, only a remnant of the fin remained. Frink stared with
his mouth wide open.
"Oh dear."
"Yeah not much of a shark fin now is it?" Said Jake
jokingly.
"You'll always be Sharky to me though." Said Frink.
Sharky had been so close that Frink only saw his face. Now he
took a look and couldn't believe it but the man was well dressed
in a nice dark red suit. It was quite the change from the scruffy
T-Shirt and pants he wore back in high school. Sharky had become
a business man and was doing very well for himself.
"Well Sharky, I'll buy you a coffee and we can toast to our
new found friendship, goh hay!"
"Hey sounds great." replied Sharky with a smile.
He pulled into
the parking lot. Work had been hard and he loved to leave the
premiss for lunch breaks. Owen pushed open the glass double doors
of the cafe. He stood in the door way a moment reading the menu.
This place was new, many of the places he had seen where new
since he had moved back. After deciding what to order he looked
at the line hoping it wouldn't be too long. His eyes quickly
fell upon a tall thin figure in a green lab coat. Instantly the
fire lit up in Owen's eyes. It couldn't be him! All these years
and his flames of hate hadn't died down in the least bit. His
mind may have forgotten but his heart had not. Owen stormed over,
placed his hand on Frink shoulder and whirled him around.
"It IS YOU!" He snarled.
"Owen? Bwah hey! Oh, It's been such a long time. What
an interesting day this has been to meet..."
Before he could finish his sentence Owen grabbed him hard by the
arm and shoved him to the back of the room.
"How often do you come here?!?" He asked staring hard
into Frink's face.
"Uh, well, everyday actually." Frink responded nervously.
"Well NOT Any More!" Yelled Owen as he threw Frink
into a corner. People scattered out of the way as Frink crashed
back frist into a table and ended up on the floor. His coffee
spilled everywhere. Owen advanced on him and towered over him
as Frink cowered, curled up and huddled against the wall. "You
aren't coming back here ANY MORE! I don't ever want to see your
ugly face anywhere near me again, you got that!"
"Yes sir." Whispered Frink. Suddenly Owen felt a tap
on his own shoulder. He turned his wrathful gaze on the stranger
when he suddenly felt himself lifted into the air, smash against
a wall and remain there feet dangling in the air. His vision
quickly came back into focus and he couldn't believe what he saw.

"Sharky? What are you doing here?" He asked, angered
that this big ape dare handle him like his.
"Taking out the trash. Well it seems like some things never
change now do they. Because of you, I had to remember my old
bully skills that I hoped I'd never have to call on. Now leave
Frinky alone, he's my friend. You hear me, Owen?" Sharky
said sternly.
"FRIEND?!?! That slime ball is your friend? What happened
to you Sharky?" Owen looked him straight in the eye with
no fear. "Did you lose your shark fin to a bowl of soup?
That must have been where your strength was. You used to eat
guys like him for breakfast. I admired you more when you had
the gall to put down those beneath you."
Angered by his defiance Sharky shoved him harder into the wall
and gave him a quick jab in the stomach.
"I still have the gall to put you down and take you down
because YOU ARE beneath me, Owen. Heck you are beneath US. At
least I matured. When are you going to come up to my level?"
Owen struggled and attempted to kick him, but Sharky would have
none of it. He yanked him off the wall and flung him out the
double doors. Owen hit the pavement hard and rolled a few feet
before coming to a stop. He was out cold. Sharky ran out after
him, but there was nothing left to be done with him excet to leave
him to the elements. He went back inside and extended his hand
to Frink who was still shaking in the corner. He lifted him to
his feet.
"I'm sorry you had to see that. Are you alright?"
Frink nodded still shaken by it all. "It's been years since
I've done something like that, heck it felt kinda good but NO
I will not return to bulling. Speaking of which, Frink you really
should stand up for yourself. That creep's had it out for you
for years. When's he gonna grow up?"
"Thank you, Sharky um hay, but I don't think I can. I'm...too
much of a coward." He looked at his watch. "Oh dear
look at the time, I must get back to work ZOI! Thanks again for
everything." Frink waved at Sharky and then ran out the
door.
