Green Day Information

Childhood friends BJ Armstrong and Mike Dirnt formed their first band called Sweet Children when they were 14 years old. By 1989, Al Sobrante had joined them and their name was changed to Green Day. Green Day released their first ablum that year called 39/Smooth. Shortly after the release, Sobrante quit and was replaced by Tré Cool. Through the early 90's Green Day started gaining their success through the ablum Kerplunk. Major record labels bidded over Green Day but Reprise signed the contract. Green Day's hit ablum Dookie was released under Reprise in Spring 1994. Thanks to Mtv's support for the singles, Longview and Welcome To Paradise Green Day was a smash success. Cd sales gained momentum though the summer with the second single, Basket Case. Green Day stole the show at Woodstock '94 by starting the biggest mud fight in history. This helped the ablum sales increase more. The ablum won a Grammy for best alternative music performance of 1994. Insomniac was released in 1995 but was not near as close to sales of Dookie. Green Day's European tour was cancelled because the band was claiming exhaustion. Nimrod was released in 1998 after the near breakup of the band. Good Riddance became the song to play in any remotely sad situation. It was played on the final episode of Seinfield, E.R., Princess Diania's funeral and every pro sports championship game. Warning was released in 2000 with the hit single Minority. Green Day has been in a lot of trouble since they were formed. This included the biggest mud fight in history, starting riots, indecent exposure, the smashing of Jay Leno's green room, the trashing of tower records and more.
