Raiden
Raiden was the god of thunder. He is the son of the fallen elder god, Shinnok and the former ruler of Outworld, Shao Kahn. Back when Shinnok was an elder god his son was supposed to also become an elder god, but Shinnok had two sons. He had to choose which son would become an elder god, so he decided to have his two sons fight to the death to see who would become an elder god. Raiden easily defeated his brother, but when Shinnok told him to finish him, Raiden refused. Neither son could become an elder god since Shao Kahn lost and Raiden wouldn’t kill him. Shao Kahn was banished and Raiden was sent to be the protector of Earthrealm and the god of thunder. When Shao Kahn resurfaced as the ruler of Outworld, Raiden convinced the gods to intervene and what proceeded was a horrible war. In the after math of the war the Mortal Kombat tournament was created to prevent people like Shao Kahn from gaining to much power. The gods decided after all the destruction their war had caused, they wouldn’t interfere anymore. Raiden grew partial to the humans he was protecting and every time a threat came up he wanted to deal with it, but since he was a god he could not. He did help out his humans as much as he could. When Shao Kahn invaded Earthrealm, he tried to convince the gods to once again stop Shao Kahn, but they refused. Raiden finally had enough when Shang Tsung and Quan Chi overthrew Shao Kahn and started resurrecting the Dragon King’s invincible army. The gods wouldn’t interfere even though the success of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi would mean the total domination of all realms. Raiden stepped down as thunder god so he could help his humans fight against Shang Tsung and Quan Chi.
