This wonderfully distinctive story begins with a family move from an Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona to a small town in Ohio. Family friends, the Reams, are there to welcome the Gray Owl family and opens their home until the Gray Owls can settle into a place of their own.

Shortly after arriving, a tragic car accident claims the lives of Chenoa's parents, leaving her and her little brother, River orphans. From there, Chenoa learns that plans for their futures have already been decided and are immediately put into place -- living with the Reams as part of their family.

Chenoa meets Dakota, a neighbor her own age who will help guide her on her spiritual journey. This young man's insightfulness is uncanny but is exactly what Chenoa needs as she faces racism and jealousy from her peers and the struggles of fitting in. Through a series of twists and turns, Chenoa finds her way, coming full circle to end up with a fresh start.

Becky Jane Dice captures the quintessence of a young girl as she begins her path to womanhood.

This heartwarming tale is compelling, richly textured, and peopled with believable characters. Chenoa's Spiritual Journey is highly recommended for young readers.

Becky Dice handled the romancee between Chenoa and Dakotah very nicely. It's pure and sweet. The youth of today need to know that they can have this kind of relationship and it may be fulfilling.
