Asking For Help
by Becky J. Dice
I am writing about the second lesson
16-year-old Chenoa Gray Owl had to
learn in the Chenoa's Spiritual
Journey Series. I wanted to
share what I have learned about
asking God for help when you
have a problem.
are so big that you can't
solve them? Although you can't
solve them often times you
don't ask for help. I've been
there and so have a lot of
people. Have you ever wondered
how they got so big in the first
place? Often time we try to
solve our own problems because
at the time they seemed small.
When we try to take matters into
our own hands we make the problems
worse than when they began. We
don't think about relinquishing
control of our lives and ask God
for help. We are instructed in
the Bible to cast our cares upon
the LORD. His yoke is easy and
His burden is light. Sometimes,
like Chenoa Gray Owl in my young
adult series, I don't think about
how easy t would be to let go of
the reigns. We're not in control,
we never were. When another student
insulted her she could have let it
go but she didn't. She retaliated
and it escalated into a war
between her and the student.
our own. We forget the
consequences of not asking
for help and we think we can
handle it. Had we trusted God
and let Him handle it the
outcome would have been
completely different.
crashing into walls or
falling into holes?
Don't wait until your
problems overwhelm you.
God had to knock Chenoa down,
flat on her back and she
couldn't do anything but
look up and face God.
I'm tired of crashing into
walls and falling into holes.
God repeatedly tells us,
"Let go and give your cares
to me." Help is a prayer
away. That's good enough
for me. How about you?

Life isn't Always Easy
by Becky J. Dice
I'm writing about the
third lesson that
16-year-old Chenoa Gray
Owl had to learn in the
Chenoa's Spiritual
Journey series and that
was life isn't always easy.
Wouldn't it be grand if life
weren't beset with problems?
Maybe in a perfect world life
would be easy.
her life wasn't going to be
easy after her parents' deaths.
How does a 16-year-old cope
without parents? How does one
adjust to living with a foster
family? Those are things that
a teenager wouldn't normally
have to face.
the beginning and it would've
helped to have had a
relationship with God.
However, she flip-flopped
like a fish out of water and
couldn't do it on her own
power. Dakotah Little Eagle
showed her a better way but
it took her a little while
to realize it.
Chenoa felt. We'd like
life to be easy and
uncomplicated. I've
often said. "I wish
this came easier" or
"Why is getting something
I want have to be so hard?"
was easy all the time we
wouldn't grow spiritually.
Although we struggle through
life it helps us grow and
mature in ways we didn't
think possible.
isn't always what God
wants for us. I've
found that out over
the years as most of
us have. Life isn't
always easy but it
can be interesting.
Even if you have
situations that
aren't easy to go
through you try to
work through them.
As Chenoa Gray Owl
learned this fact
so have I. I've
grown spiritually
writing her story.
I challenge you to
read Chenoa's story
and grow spiritually.
and some of favorite my favorite web sites.
Becky is promoting her trilogy of young adult books about the
day to day experiences challenging our young people by
offering an alternative entertainment to the video games,
television, etc, that are so prevalent today. Although her
books are fictional, the message is relevant for spiritual
growth and faith.
Becky's books are designed to let people know that by keeping
God as their foundation, situations that seem overwhelming
suddenly don't seem so big. She demonstrates the value of
trusting God and remaining faithful even in a tragedy.
Most teens want to be loved and to be understood as well as
accepted and popular among their peers. Becky keeps her
story line focused on a relationship with God and follow
these desires.
