Husband's General Notes

John H. Wheeler was a private in the 29th NC Infantry, Company B. This was the first, and one of only a few, NC Regiment to go to Tennesee. They fought at Stone's River, Chickamauga, all through the Atlanta Campaign, the disastrous last invasion of Tennesee, and finished the war as part of the garrison at Spanish Fort in Mobile, where they were under seige for more than a month. Of the original family group in this company only John H. Wheeler apparently served throughout the war. from Kevin White

March 1865, John H Wheeler detached from service with 3D NC Mounted Infantry "Kirk's Raiders" and attached to Stoneman - -- "Kirk's Raiders" by Matthew Bumgarner .
