PROPOSAL

Wilt thou marry me and be my wife?
Wilt thou care for me as I care for thee,
And as I love thee, love me all my life?
Canst thou consent to bide thy life with me?
For I am no great prize, cannot aspire
To thy father's estate, nor can I
Thy parents' regard and love much inspire.
Unworthy, none more loving wilt thou spy.
As frightful as it is to marry, still
It seems far more frightful not to marry.
I know thou lovest me, and so I will
Not, having never asked, through life tarry.
And so, as I have ever done, I show
Thee my heart. wilt thou answer yes, or no?
