LADY CLARE

Like the veriest Rapunzel is she,
With flaming red hair and bright shining smile.
Lightfooted and fair like one of the sidhe,
The loveliest lass in many a mile.
Yet the beauty we see in her is least
Of her virtues. Her kindness unspoken,
Her wisdom unmention'd, her wit a feast,
Cannot be caught in verse save in token.
She gives good service to her barony,
Brings in revenues, spreading knowledge wide,
And delights in making things of beauty.
Much there is to be learned close by her side.
For the fortunate whom she companions
Enjoys more grace than any champions.
