A SONNET OF FEALTY

Here do I, Galen of Bristol, now swear
Freely and solemnly my fealty
As a knight swears to a king and his heir,
On my honor I swear this oath to thee.
To serve without promise of reward
To speak and to be silent, to defend,
Unto death if need be, thou hast my word.
I am thy man to any bitter end,
Until Death take me into his land,
Or until my liege choose to release me,
I swear by this good sword and my right hand,
'Til the world's end shall I strive to please thee.
For while thou art king, then I am thy man,
So long as thou keep'st me as I now am.
