COMPANION APART

Do not despair that we are now apart
Though miles intervene and letters take days.
Thou need'st only conjure me in thy heart
And I will be with thee in loving ways.
Thou canst always hear from me what thou
Need'st to hear. Thou knowest what I would tell.
Remember my embraces and my vow,
That I would surely care for thee so well.
For each of us has trials that we must face;
And I know I must defeat mine for thee.
But that you can triumph I have great faith.
Yet prouder of my lady will I be.
That we're apart is not by either's will;
But hold me in thy heart to see me still.
