On our personal day tour of the Lister - Lindesnes regions, Paul Rynning took us to a privately owned area where old mills remained. Each family would have their own mill along a nearby stream or creek. These mills were still operational, and Paul shared how he brought his children to this site to channel the water down the raceways to turn the grinding wheel stones.
Water wheeled mills of @150 years ago following a stream down a rocky hillside. The chimneys are from "ovens" to dry grain.

Paul Rynning explaining the operation of the water raceway at the 150 y.o. mill Eugenie is examining.
A water raceway to a water wheel in an old mill house. This was how wheat, barley, and corn flour was ground in the days of Per Rasmussen and Ole Petter Pedersen.
Lill Tony and Even Ramvik, and Paul Rynning at the North Sea coast. Paul drove his Mercedes like an Italian sports car and 4WD SUV on roads less traveled to where others rarely venture.

The 150 year old foundation of our family's mill house remains along the stream below the dam of our Lake Lillestemmen in Smabakkan.
Rugged North Sea coastline former shipping ramp/dock. Although Norway does not experience tides, the waves during storms will wash over the large sign on the rocky cliffs. This site is near the location of Viking ruins @ 15,000 y.o.
