My interests and some interesting links

I have a lot of interests-some shallow and some deep. Some of them you might like, some you may not, depending on how much torture I have subject you to, using them. Below are some links that you'll find interesting if you have common interests and I'll keep updating them from time to time.

Like I said, I have a lot of interests and the repertoire only keeps expanding. Come back often to see what I have added.

The music world

Ask any of my friends to comment on the kind of music I listen to, and chances are that you'll get to have a good laugh. Make sure you don't check with R.S. Mani though, 'cause he just loves to pull my leg on this one.

Honestly speaking, I love any kind of music with one precondition-it shouldn't have lyrics or the lyrics shouldn't be an important part of that piece of music. So obviously, ghazals are a no no!!

Words are for prose and poems, keep them away from music. Sorry for being harsh on this one, but it comes strainght from the heart.

This is important to me because it allows me to add any kind of emotion to the music piece I am listening to, and I don't get constrained by what the singer is trying to say. This is one big reason that it is easy for me to like music from any country/language, be it Asian, European or African.

So now you know why I am a great fan of Chinese and Korean music!

Some sources of great music, if you appreciate my point of view on music and language is not a problem. If not, simply stay away from these links.

www.kazaa.com (Any kind of music. Try downloading Russell Watson's songs)

http://www.cri.com.cn (Go to the English page and then select MUSIC to listen to Chinese traditional/contemporary pieces)

http://203.252.231.26 (Korean traditional and contemporary)

The aviation world

If there is one thing that I wanted to do more than anything else, it was to fly commercial jets. Medical unfitness held me from getting there but it still gives me a thrill to look up into the sky and see an aircraft doing vectors or circuits for approach or even a SID after take-off. London, New York and Chicago are an aviator's paradise and I recently had the pleasure of visiting all these cities and ofcourse their skies filled with contrails. If you ever wondered why those jetstreams get created, think of your smokey breath in chilly weather. Nothing beats having an air-band receiver in these cities. The Sony Air-8 is one of my most precious possessions in such times. Don't despair if you don't have one, because one of the links below streams RT from some of the busiest airports in the world. And for those of you who love aircraft pics. there is a site which literally has thousands of pictures including those of your national carrier.

www.squawkident.com (for live streaming from Kennedy International, O'Hare, Fort Worth and many others)

www.airliners.net (for great pics and backgrounds of aircrafts)

The research world

If there is one thing I like to do whenever I have even the slightest bit of time, it is to read. I read in the train, toilet, dining table, while travelling with colleagues and even while I have freinds around me. So you can imagine how annoying it is for them. I generally hate reading off the computer screen and prefer to take printouts of downloads from the Internet and read them while travelling. I read everything under the sun but love short pieces of work. I hate novels and business books.

If you ever want some research material to read, just go to the links below. There are plenty of other links that I will add here soon.

www.ssrn.com (a collaborative initiative of univeristy academicians from across the world)

www.nber.org (for economics related research)

If you do find some interesting links on any of the above topics, do let me know and I'll definitely put them up here.
