Info. on my big trebuchet:
The base of my trebuchet is made
out of 16 foot 6x6. I didn't have to pay for then because they were from my old
cottage. If
I had bought them they would have cost about 200 CDN each. Each of them weight
around 125-
200 pounds. I would have built most of my treb. out of them but the ones that I
would have
used for it, were roting. The frame was bolted together with 10" carage bolt.
One way
that I reinfored the base was that instead of having the 6x6 on top of each other
and then
bolt them together I cut 1" notches in them and then bolted them together.
The axle is a 5 foot axle from an old printing press that my dad had at work and it measure 1.25" thick. It is solid reinforced axle and weights around 35 pounds. Once I get the arm in place I will reinforce it with Y braces. (see plans)
The counterweight box is constructed of 4x4 and 2x4 and huge bolts. (see plans) When the counter weight attaches to the arm I am using 1" thick bolts at 8" each. I am using them becasue I can not find any cheap axles. (once I have pics of it you will see what I mean)(to hard to explain)
