Martin Benoist dit LaBrière left La Rochelle, France for Acadia in the spring of 1671 aboard l'Oranger. He was 28 years old. Marie Chaussegros, who was 15 at the time, was also aboard the l'Oranger. Marie was from Rochefort, a city not far from Larochelle. She and Martin Bonoist married, either at LaRochelle just before boarding the ship, or shortly after their arrival at Port Royal, Acadia. Martin and Marie along with their family spent their first thirty years in Acadia in the vicinity of Port Royal. Their ten children were born there. In the period between 1690 and 1700, it is known that Martin lived just inland from Port Royal on the north bank of the Rivière des Dauphins (today known as Annapolis River).spouse: >Chaussegros, Marie (1656 - )
