Pictus cats are
among the world's most popular aquarium catfish. They are quite
attractive with silver bodies and block spots. Their whiskers
will be quite long, either silver or white. The fins may or
may not have black tips.
A smooth gravel surface should be provided due to this catfish's
very sensitive whiskers. It uses these whiskers to locate food.
Damage to the whiskers could prove fatal due to starvation. While
the water should be slightly acidic, other conditions such as
clearness aren't overly important. In the wild they are known
for living in murky conditions. Don't stress these fish, they
can easily be frightened and sent into a frenzy. Decorations
should stay towards the outsides of the aquarium with the center
left open for swimming. Nocturnal behaviors are common for this
fish. Subdued lights are best however this fish will adjust to
regular lighting conditions. Keep them with larger gentle and
semi-aggressive fish. Smaller fish should not be trusted with
these guys.
Feed Carnivorous foods. Worms are most appreciated. Do not
overfeed, Pictus cats will gorge themselves.
