Detailed Description:

This fish is quite popular due to it's interested appearance. It will usually have a solid black base color. Sometimes they will have a faint pattern on the body. Usually their will be a white, thin lined pattern towards, on and around the caudal fin. The most interesting feature is the long and thin nose. These fish are electric fish that have a slight electrical charge used for navigation. This charge will not harm or even be detectable by humans, nor will it harm other fish.

These fish are generally passive in nature and have been incorporated into community aquariums. However, they can be territorial. Provide lots of plants for territory. Also, as a nocturnal fish lower light levels or dark hiding spots are necessary. A soft substrate, usually sand, should be used. This fish likes to burrow. Only keep one Elephant-nose per aquarium because they are not usually able to tolerate their own kind.

This fish will usually only eat small live foods like insect larva. Feeding dried or prepared foods will most likely result in failure and refusal to eat.

While skiddish and sensitive to noise, these fish are usually not sensitive to water conditions. They will adapt to a variety of different environments.

Sexing is possible but difficult. Males will generally have a more curved anal fin.

Breeding behavior is unknown.
