This fish is
elongated with 8 barbells around it's mouth. It's dorsal fin
will cover most of it's back. The anal fin has a long base
as well. This species will come in four main color varieties...tan,
brown, gray, and albino.
This fish is often called the "Walking Catfish" because
of it's ability to walk on it's strong pectoral fins. In the
wild this fish will often "walk" to another body of
water when it needs to. Be careful though, warmer states have
made these fish illegal because of their ability to inhabit local
water sources. Careless owners who release them could inadvertently
destroy an eco-system.
Provide a planted environment with rocky hiding places. A
tight fitting aquarium hood or top is a must.
Select tank mates carefully, this fish can and will kill fish
up to it's size. Feed meaty foods in large portions. Beefheart,
live feeders, and earthworms. Also offer vegetable matter.
If overfed their bellies will swell, you should avoid this
but if it happens a few days without food will solve the problem.
These fish are tolerant of many water conditions, follow the
guidelines in the facts above and everything should work fine.
Males will have spots on their dorsal fins, females will not.
Breeding is unknown. |
