The color of
this Betta species is much different from that of common Bettas.
The common Bettas usually has a flat, yet bright color. This
species has a silvery body with a rainbow sheen. They are quite
attractive. The female will often be more dull in color and
might show a faint, horizontal lined pattern.
While being less aggressive than common Bettas, males should
still not be trusted together. They may fight for territory and
breeding rights. Water should be slightly acidic for maximum
life span. Clean water, provided by strong filtration is required.
Bi-weekly water changes are also recommended. Plants, rooted
and floating, should be added. Substrate choice is not a factor.
Any typical Betta food will work, however this species will
enjoy small live foods like insect larva much better. Remember
that Bettas of all type have small mouths and small stomachs.
Don't overfeed.
As with the common Betta this species is a bubble nest builder
and will need floating plants under which they will build their
nest. Once hatched the fry should not be trusted with their
parents. Bettas are not known for the best parental instincts. |
