Detailed Description:

While being similar to the red variety this fish should not be confused with the Common Betta. It is not generally an aggressive fish but can be territorial. This fish (as it's nickname suggests) will usually be dark red in color, all over.
A planted aquarium with soft, acidic water should be provided. Not as hardy as the Common Betta. Keep these fish with other small, non-aggressive fish.

Commercially available Betta foods should be sufficient for this species. Alternatives would be brine shrimp and bloodworms.

Males of this species will most likely be larger and more colorful than the females, much like other species of Bettas.

These fish are bubble-nest builders. They will usually build a nest made of bubbles near the surface where they will deposit the eggs. Other breeding behaviors are unknown.
