Without a doubt
this fish is a brute. It starts out life as a peaceful young
specimen and turns into a nasty tank mate. Don't even attempt
to place this fish with others that aren't as equally aggressive.
Because this fish needs quite a bit of space it is generally
not a good fish for most aquarists. Exercise caution when choosing
this fish as it will be hard to deal with and more than likely
quite expensive due to it's rarity. It might be a good idea
to take caution when cleaning or maintaining the aquarium because
this fish produces an electric field much like electric eels,
though the charge is more like that of an Elephant nose...barely
notable.
This fish slightly resembles the likes of an eel, specifically
the Electric Eel. It is also similar in appearance to many of
the Knife species with a long tapered body.
When designing your aquarium around these guys take care. Don't
spend too much money in equipment (or hide the equipment as well
as possible) as the fish will more likely damage them. This fish
is big and acts accordingly.
The Aba Aba is a carnivore and must be treated as such. When
feeding young specimens Frozen Bloodworms or other "meaty" foods
like Beafheart are acceptable. When older they will need larger
prey such as feeder fish. Often the prey must be live. Feed
often to decrease aggression.
These fish are known to be mouth brooders. Breeding is usually
only successful in LARGE aquariums. Physically the males and
females of this species have no known differences. Sexing is
only possible internally.
This fish is not for the beginner. |
