Himura Kenshin was a former assassin or Hitokiri. He was known then as the Hitokiri Battousai. Although he was a former assassin he is polite, kind and gentle. You won't even believe that he was an assassin. He does laundry and cooks. He is very cool although he always blames himself when he get's Kaoru in trouble or other close friends, but who could blame he lost his wife in his own hands. He join the Bakumatsu at the age of 14 and left wandering at 19. At the age of 15 he was married to Yukishiro Tomoe to lessen the suspicions of him being the Battousai. But in the end they eventually fell in love. Later, Tomoe revealed that she was really there to kill him, to find out his true weakness and to avenge her fiancee's death. She was killed with Battousai's own hand and this made a scar on Kenshin's heart and face. His first scar (the one that runs from his to his chin )was given to him by Kiyosato Akira, Tomoe fiancee. The second was when Tomoe ran between Battousai's enemy and him, and he accidentaly slashed her. Her tanto flew and slashed him from his eye across hiss jaw which completed the cross scar. After that he swore never to kill again and began his wandering. After ten years, He was passing Tokyo, a woman challenge him calling him Battousai. He later found out that someone was threatening her school. It was Kamiya Kaoru, she invited him to her Dojo and ended his wandering. They were later joined by Yahiko, Sanosuke and Megumi. During the Kyoto Arc he finished his training with his Shishou and became the 14th Master of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. In the end of the Manga series he married Kaoru after Enishi's defeat and had a son named Kenji.

Karatake - downward stroke, Kesagiri - slantwise downward stroke to the shoulder, Kesagiri - reversed, right Nagi - belly stroke, left Nagi - reverse belly stroke, right upward cut, left upward cut, and the Sakakaze, upward stroke, the stroke that pierces at the shortest range to the chest, the Tsuki.
Amakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki - the ougi or the secret techinique
Battou-jutsu - By whipping the sword out of the sheath, one can increase
its speed twice or three fold. A great technique which can kill with one blow without
taking a single blow from one’s opponent. It could also be called iai-jutsu (the art
of drawing one’s sword, cutting down one’s opponent, and sheathing the
sword all in one movement.)
