The Animal Refuge
Center has been in existence in Vine Grove, KY since 1985,
when it was first incorporated as the Bluegrass Humane
Society. In 1989, retired Lt. Col. Joan Gnage Jost established
her ranch-style home as the Animal Refuge Center. Many
years and several hundred animals later, we are the largest
no-kill animal shelter in Kentucky. People are amazed
at the home-friendly environment the animals live in.
With couches, tables, staff working to clean every day,
no one feels guilty about visiting!
The Animal Refuge Center
serves many needs and takes care of many situations. Even though we
now adopt out pets from our website at Petfinder.com,
the ARC always seems to be full, because our goal of seeing every pet
spayed and neutered is still more a dream than a reality.
From humane education for children to pet therapy for the elderly, we
provide as much community outreach as we have volunteers to spare! We
have had a lot of great people working with us over the years, and good
people these days are hard to find. The work is not always easy, but
adoption days are the happiest days, especially when you know it's a
great home. It truly is a labor of love.

ARC is in
desperate need of daytime volunteers at the shelter! Every day of the
week that you are available is open, so if you want to do some good
for the homeless pets of Hardin County, call the ARC at (270) 877-6064
and ask how you can help. You can also drop us a line at
