Choose a photo and apply an artistic effect. Open a photo that you'd like to apply this effect to. Window-> Duplicate so you don't accidentally overwrite your original photograph. On the layer control palette, right click and choose Duplicate. Apply your favorite artistic effect to the duplicate layer, there are several artistic effects in the Script dropdown. You could also use Effects-> Artistic Effects-> Brush Strokes or an art media filter such as Virtual Painter or Paint Engine. For this photo, I chose the Pointillist script from the Script dropdown. This script creates an extra layer, so I will click on the top layer, right click and choose Merge Down. |

Drop shadow. On the layer control palette, right click and choose New Raster Layer. Effects-> 3D Effects-> Drop Shadow. The settings are a matter of personal preference, here I've used Offsets of 1, Blur of 6 and black for the color. Leave the Opacity at 100% and make adjustments using the layer's opacity slider instead. |

Add more selections, if desired. You can continue to repeat the selections and drop shadows to create a collage effect. Delete any undesired drop shadow lines that fall inside new selections by hitting the delete key while the selection is still active. |
