Victim Found By Burned Car Identified

UPDATE!!!! 3-3-2008
I have Recently Received
Newinformation regarding the Enochs KnobDeath... In fact there was a
boy who fell from the Enoch's KnobBridge, His sister contacted me with
the entire story. In fact it wasnot a little boy who fell, It was a
young man Named Patrick (Pat)Kennison. Here is some Info that His
sister emailed me:
Hi, August 23 is the anniversary of the death of my brother PatKinnison, who fell from Enoch's Knob in 1987. It just sohappens thattoday my daughter and nephew were asking what happened that night and Iwas telling them the stories I knew of haunting's on the bridge. Idecided to go on-line and see if I could print out the real storiesgoing around for my nephew, because he loves that kind of scary stuff, and I don't really know them exactly. My mother told me of a story ofher and two of my brothers..one beingPat....going to a wedding one night many many years ago. They allgota bit drunk and stole a street sign somewhere in Union. Shethinks Pattook the Enochs sign, which true to his form will probably appearin myhouse somewhere just to freak me out. Pat was like that, alwaysplaying tricks on everyone. He liked to pick on me and scare mewhilehe was alive. I was only 11 years old when he died, and the strange things thathappened to me growing up made me definitely believe that spiritsareout there. I go to Enoch's with my sister when I am visiting myfamilyin Krakow. We'll go out to a bar or what-not, and if we don'tfeellike going home, we'll just go sit out by the bridge and visit withPat. I'm the big baby though, I'm even afraid of the dark,so mysister gets a kick out of me going..."what's that?!?" every tenseconds. Hereis
some information on Pat and what happened:
I'm sure his spirit is there, I can feel it when I visit. Iimaginehim watching the people he frightens off...and I'm sure he just laughsand laughs. That's the type person he was. I know there was an article in the Missourian when it happened, I'm notsure about the St. Louis Post, though, it was so long ago. He isburied at St. Gertrude's cemetery in Krakow off of hwy YY. I'lltry toscan a picture he did in high school photography class and send it toyou. He combined a lot of pictures he took into a question markandhis self portrait is in the middle. (I think I have it in storagesomewhere.) |
This
bridge has many stories and legends behind it,and i'm wondering if any
of it has any truth to it. I'm currently tryingto find records that
would prove the deaths that supposedly occured hereif they ever occured
at all. I'm putting two of the (stories) of this bridgeup for all to
read if they'd like. Who knows how much truth is in it, ifthere is any
at all, tales sometimes get taller and taller as they aretold..... you
decide. If anyone has any info either way i'd really loveto hear the
history of this bridge and area.
New Haven - Enocks
knob road - A very creepy oldbridge sits near the end of this road. The
lake below is haunted by thespirit of the little boy who fell off the
bridge a long time ago. It issaid that late at night if you go on the
bridge and look down you can seesomething swimming in the murky waters,
some say he appears as a serpent. There have also been many stories of a
man committing suicide by divingoff the bridge. A lot of people who
drive down this road will hear dogsbarking while nearing the
bridge...only there are no dogs in the area!An old man lives not far
from the bridge but and he claims he does notown any dogs. Legend also
has it that on Friday the 13th you can see anapparition of a gnome with
glowing red eyes climbing up an old dead treenear the bridge. A very
spooky place indeed.
Enocks Knob is a very old bridge on a dirt roadin the middle of nowhere almost. Its location is between Washington andNew Haven, MO. Matt and I have heard numerous stories about this placeand one night we decided to check it out for ourselves to see if it wasall true.
First here is the stories related to thishauntedbridge: Rumor has it a man committed suicide by jumping off the bridgeinto the lake below, there may have been two suicides I cant remember. There was also a little boy that fell through the bridge (a very longtimeago when it was not sturdy), supposedly this boys spirit haunts thelakebelow the bridge and can be seen sometimes late at night swimming inthewaters. Rumor is that his spirit sometimes appears as a serpent or someother kind of creature. The hole the boy fell through is still on thebridge, you can actually see the hole even though it looks like someone hastriedto board it up.
Then I heard was that sometimes while on thebridgeyou can hear dogs barking...but there are supposedly no dogs out there. My friend Liz knows the only two people who live on the road and theydon'thave dogs! (plus they dont live very close to the bridge maybe like amileaway or so).
The last few rumors where that if you chant"demondog" three times on the bridge you will either see glowing red eyesappearin the woods or you will see an apparition of a headless dog with only3 legs. Anyway moving on to our encounter! Matt and I went out to thebridgewith our friends Mike and Leslie. (this was our 2nd time out there, thefirst time nothing happened). When we got to the bridge Matt, Mike andI got out of the car to roam the bridge. It was very cold and the airwassilent, there was no breeze..no noise, complete and utter silence! Thatwas eerie enough for me.
We were only out there for like a minute or twowhen this earsplitting cry broke the silence of the night. It soundedfaraway, yet very close. That scared me enough to get back in the car withLeslie. Matt and Mike stayed on the bridge and Mike was acting like itwas just our imagination. (he is a skeptic). After a few minutes theycamerunning back to the car and Matt drove really fast off the bridge andbackonto the dirt road. While we were heading home Matt and Mike told usthatwhile it was just them two out on the bridge they started hearing thisgrowling sound coming from underneath the bridge. Then they said itseemedto go from under the bridge to the woods nearby (really fast). All thistime they heard no footsteps or running through the leaves. They saiditwas quiet for a few seconds then started back up again and it soundedlikeit was coming from all sides. Matt described it as a very low pitchscreamthat resembled that of a bull.
When it sounded like it was just getting closerthats when they decided to come back to the car and get the hell out ofthere. We decided not to go back for awhile....but we did anyway andthisis our last encounter and it scared us enough to really not go backtherefor awhile...maybe not at all. We decided to visit the bridge one lasttime, it was just Matt and I.
We drove down the dirt road off of Hwy.100 andas we were turning onto Enocks Knob road we noticed the street sign wasgone completely. We shrugged it off and continued down towards thebridge, passing the only two homes and finally we were there. We drove over thebridge, turned the car around and parked near the end (where the bridgeends and the road meets). We were just sitting there listening to musicand talking when I noticed something in my side view mirror. Throughthered taillights I noticed what looked like a dark shadow coming up frombehind the car, at least thats what it looked like. I told matt to turnoff the music because I thought I just saw something and it was verysilent.I started getting chills badly. We didn't see anything else but both ofus(at the same time)heard the dogs barking. It started in low then gotreally loud. At first it sounded like it was coming from far away andina matter of seconds the noise was coming from right near the car, onthebridge, in the woods, I don't know. It sounded like it was coming fromall directions. Right when we decided to just drive off a car camespeedingup behind us. We figured it was just someone passing trough so Mattstartedto drive off down the dirt road. The barking seemed to instantly stopthemoment this car pulled up, it was strange. Along the road this car wastotally tailgating us, getting very very close. They had there lightsonso we couldn't make out who it was that was driving. Matt sped upalittleand we went around a curve and the other car had vanished into thinair! It was nowhere to be seen.
Matt slowed the car down(almost to a completestop)butthe road behind us was empty. ???? We were both shocked and verypuzzledby this. Especially because there was no way they could have turned offthe road onto another because its only one straight road. Their onlyoptionswere going into a ditch or off a cliff into the woods below! This roadhas a lot of sharp curves and small hills so unless that was aprofessionalrace car driver chasing us off the bridge then there was no way in hellthey could have just gone into reverse! And if they did then how didtheyvanish so quickly? Alot of questions were going through my mind.
We drove slowly down the road near the placewherethe Enocks Knob sign use to stand. Matt stopped the car and we bothlookedcarefully and noticed the sign laying in the ditch below. Matt got outand and went down into the ditch. I don't know why...I stayed in thecarbecause I had enough scares in one night! I noticed matt walking up thehill to where the sign once stood, I was getting ready to yell at himtojust come back and take me home but when I noticed the look on his faceI stopped. He came back to the car shaking and told me the signliterallylooked like it was gnawed or bit off. He said the bottom part of it wasstill in the ground(I couldn't have seen it from where I wassitting)Andas he recalls it really looked like it was either bitten or twistedoff. It seemed impossible to me because it was a steel sign. I don't knowwhatit is but there is something about that place that just makes my fleshcrawl every time I even think about it. I don't think I would want togoback.
We'll see, places like that strike me socuriousbut I think I have learned my lesson now! I have had my share of scaresand at least I can say I was there and that I saw what I saw and heardwhat I heard. So can Matt. If you live in the Washington/New Haven areaand would like to see the place for yourself then here are somedirections.Coming from Washington, MO drive straight on Hwy.100 towards new haven. You will pass over a bridge and almost right after the bridge on theleftside there is a stop sign(its visible from the highway)and a sign thatsays "Beouff Creek rd",turn down this road and about a mile down on theleft hand side is Enocks Knob Rd.
I don't know when someone will fix the sign.butlook out for it. Well drive up this road and you'll pass 2 houses andkeepdriving about 1 mile and you'll come across the bridge. Go with an openmind and be sure to keep your eyes and ears open. I wouldn't go alone.Thank you for taking your time reading this.
Enjoy!

About three or four weeks ago, myself
and eleven of my friends went to Enochs Knob Road Bridge. I know having
that many people reduces the scare factor, but they keptinviting
themselves. We drove to the bridge from 185 and turnedaround just
before crossing. We parked facing back towards185. I kept a close eye
on all eleven people to make sure noonewandered away to pull a prank.
We walked all the way across thebridge, looked around and began walking
back towards our cars. Aswe got 1/4 of the way across (3/4 of the way
FROM our cars) we heard alound bang coming from the end of the bridge
where our cars were. It was from the very edge of the bridge, not past
it. We allfroze in silence. Then we heard what sounded like a rock
beingknocked against metal coming from the same spot. We ran to ourcars
and drove back to 185 and stopped. This was my idea and Iwasn't ready
to leave just yet. After some convincing of theothers we decided to go
back. We parked in the same spot asbefore and walked to the edge of the
bridge. My friend Chris andI walked to my car to my camera. Just before
we got to my car, wewere next a friends' car, we heard a humming noise
and westopped. This humming noise began to circle around us. Weheard it
from our left, then behind, then right, then in front, and tothe left
again. This continued for about 20 seconds, and then thewind began to
stir in a circular motion, but only where we werestanding. The leaves
on the trees weren't moving, and none of ourfriends felt it. We ran
back to our friends and just as we beganto tell them about it, one
person said, "Holy Shit!" We alllooked up at the center top of the
bridge. A white cirlce hadappeared. We watched as that cirlce dropped
straight down to oureye level in a split second. It moved to our right
and beganweaving in and out of the piers of the bridge towards us.
Weturned on flashlights and pointed them at the cirlce and still only
sawthe white cirlce. Nothing else. We then left and stopped ata gas
station off Hwy 100. There were three middle-aged menstanding inside
hanging out so I asked them if they knew of any hauntedplaces in the
area. One mans eyes lit up and he said, "ENOCHSKNOB ROAD BRIDGE!" I
pretended not to know about it and he toldme his own personal stories
of going to the bridge. He said thatthe guy to fell from the bridge
after climbing to the top had landed onthe bridge itself, about 3/4's
of the way down it, from 185. Where we were standing when we heard the
noises. He also told methat when he was my age (I'm 19) he partied
there almost everyweekend. On the other side of the bridge there was a
smalltwo-story house that had been abandoned for as long as he'd
beenalive. Every so often, though, while out there partying, therewould
be lit candles in all of the windows, and if you watched longenough you
would see shadows of people walking by. One night, asthey all
approached the house to turn their cars around they noticedthat the
house was gone. Nobody walked to where it had been tofind out because
it was too dark. But he went back the next dayand could see the roof
sitting on the ground. Upon inspection herealized the house had sunk
into the ground. The next week thecity demolished the house and
regraded the land so you can't tell whereit is. I'm going back to the
bridge tonight, and if anythinghappens I'll write again.

About
a week or two ago a fewfriends of mine were talking about enocks knob.
They were telling mehow colored people use to be hung there and there
were 2 suicides and ababy died, Plus the death last year about the man
and his car burning(they say it was over meth, and that there was once
a meth lab nearthere). Well, I'm the kind of person that loves to hear
about all ofthis scary stuff and I'm ready to do it but once we get
there im notdoing nothing but shaking in my boots. Enjoy! Some Pictures
that I had taken of the bridge in December2003
