On 5-9-2005 There was a tragic death On enoch's Knob Rd, near the bridge. There was a body found nextto a car that had been set on fire and burnt... Here is the KSDK newsreport on it:

Victim Found By Burned Car Identified

-KSDK-
TheMajor Case Squad has identified the body that was found next to aburned out car in Franklin County. The victim has been identified asStephen Cooksey, and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Forsenic dental records were used to identify Cooksey, who was 46 yearsold.
His body was found outside a car around 8:30 Monday night, whendetectives were called to the scene just off Enochs Knob Road.
Investigatorsstill aren't saying how Cooksey was killed. They describe him as atransient who has lived in various motels in recent weeks. They say heserved time in prison on drug trafficking and theft charges.
His last known address was in the 100 block of Delvista in Villa Ridge.
His body was found in a remote area between New Haven and Washington.
Investigatorsare now focusing on his acquaintances. Capt. Jerry Burke with the majorcase squad says, "We talked to people that were his friends, people heassociated with, and we tried to recreate what he had done prior to hisdeath."
Investigators are not saying why someone may have wantedto kill Cooksey, and they say they are following up on leads but haveno particular suspect.

Another Article about the Incident Whichwas in the Washington Missourian Paper:

Four Days of intenseinvestigation into the Drug-related murdeer of Stephen R. Cooksey haspaid off with the arrest of one suspect, Fraklin County Sheriff GaryTbelke said. The suspect sitll has not been formally charged as Themissourian was going to press Friday afternoon and authorities were notreleasing the 19-year-old man's name. "We do have a suspect in custodyand we've recovered some crucial evidence" He said it's possible moresuspects could be charged in the Cooksey's murder. Toelke said theteenage suspect moved around a lot and had no permanent address. Herecently had stayed in New Have, Eureka, Washington and Union, theSheriff said. Cooksey's badly burned body was found Monday night undera car parked down a dirt lane of Enoch's Knob Road west of Washington.A county deputy responding to a report of a car on fire found the body.Authorities gave Villa Ridge address for Cooksey, 46, who was describedby some as a transient who stayed with freinds at different locationsand worked at times as a janitor. Toelke said investigators havedetermined the cause of Cooksey's death, but were not yet releasingthat information. They also aren't releasing a possible motive for thehomicide. Investigators with the Great St. Louis Major Case Squad wereheading out again Friday afternoon to conduct additional interviews andfollow up other leads. The sheriff apraised members of the case squadwho spearheaded the murder investigation. At least 18 squad membersjoined with local detectives to follow up on multiple leads, which attimes took them to other counties. "We would have never been able to dothis without them" Toelke commented. "They're doing an excellent job.The extra manpower was extremely beneficial. We've ahd a tremendousammount of leads and a lot of evidence." Due to the drug connections, the investigation led officeres to interview people and Licoln andJefferson counties as well as Franklin County, Toelke explained. Theinvestigation also focused on the some computer forensices involvingcellular phones and text messaging systems. Toelke noted that some ofthe squad members are specialists in that type of evidence. Theinvestigation has revealed a picture of the methamphetaminemanafacturing culture in this area, Toelke said. "I wish thepeople could have heard some of the stories we've heard in the pastweek? the Sheriff remarked. " About what this drug does to people andfamilies,, and the lives these people live, moving from place to place, cooking in motel rooms and anywhere they can find. A lot of peopledon't realize this culture is out there"

UPDATE!!!! 3-3-2008

I have Recently Received Newinformation regarding the Enochs KnobDeath... In fact there was a boy who fell from the Enoch's KnobBridge, His sister contacted me with the entire story. In fact it wasnot a little boy who fell, It was a young man Named Patrick (Pat)Kennison. Here is some Info that His sister emailed me:

Hi,

August 23 is the anniversary of the death of my brother PatKinnison, who fell from Enoch's Knob in 1987. It just sohappens thattoday my daughter and nephew were asking what happened that night and Iwas telling them the stories I knew of haunting's on the bridge. Idecided to go on-line and see if I could print out the real storiesgoing around for my nephew, because he loves that kind of scary stuff, and I don't really know them exactly. My mother told me of a story ofher and two of my brothers..one beingPat....going to a wedding one night many many years ago. They allgota bit drunk and stole a street sign somewhere in Union. Shethinks Pattook the Enochs sign, which true to his form will probably appearin myhouse somewhere just to freak me out. Pat was like that, alwaysplaying tricks on everyone. He liked to pick on me and scare mewhilehe was alive.

I was only 11 years old when he died, and the strange things thathappened to me growing up made me definitely believe that spiritsareout there. I go to Enoch's with my sister when I am visiting myfamilyin Krakow. We'll go out to a bar or what-not, and if we don'tfeellike going home, we'll just go sit out by the bridge and visit withPat. I'm the big baby though, I'm even afraid of the dark,so mysister gets a kick out of me going..."what's that?!?" every tenseconds.

Hereis some information on Pat and what happened:
Pat liked to climbthings. The summer before he died he wasclimbing a park pavilion in Washington and fell and broke hiship. Hewas 23 years old and was finally getting his life together. Thenightof the accident I remember watching him walk out the door. He wasonhis way to a party and was in a hurry and I didn't get to say goodbyeto him. I remember that, because I ALWAYS said goodbye toeveryonewhen they left the house...it was just "my thing". It bugged methewhole night...and it still bothers me to this day. He was stillonpain killers from the broken hip, but as you probably know, a party atEnoch's requires alcohol. Apparently a car got stuck in the cornfieldand everyone went to push it out. Pat stayed behind and due todrinking while taking pain killers, he thought it was a good idea toclimb the bridge. When everyone came back, Pat was gone. His friend(my best friends brother) saw him on the rocks at the bottom of thebridge and ran down to give him CPR. I'm pretty sure he was deadassoon as he hit...I've never had the desire to ask. He did CPRuntil anambulance arrived, which I'm sure it took a while, as cell phonesweren't around then. It wasn't suicide though, just an veryunfortunate accident.

I'm sure his spirit is there, I can feel it when I visit. Iimaginehim watching the people he frightens off...and I'm sure he just laughsand laughs. That's the type person he was.

I know there was an article in the Missourian when it happened, I'm notsure about the St. Louis Post, though, it was so long ago. He isburied at St. Gertrude's cemetery in Krakow off of hwy YY. I'lltry toscan a picture he did in high school photography class and send it toyou. He combined a lot of pictures he took into a question markandhis self portrait is in the middle. (I think I have it in storagesomewhere.)

This bridge has many stories and legends behind it,and i'm wondering if any of it has any truth to it. I'm currently tryingto find records that would prove the deaths that supposedly occured hereif they ever occured at all. I'm putting two of the (stories) of this bridgeup for all to read if they'd like. Who knows how much truth is in it, ifthere is any at all, tales sometimes get taller and taller as they aretold..... you decide. If anyone has any info either way i'd really loveto hear the history of this bridge and area.

New Haven - Enocks knob road - A very creepy oldbridge sits near the end of this road. The lake below is haunted by thespirit of the little boy who fell off the bridge a long time ago. It issaid that late at night if you go on the bridge and look down you can seesomething swimming in the murky waters, some say he appears as a serpent. There have also been many stories of a man committing suicide by divingoff the bridge. A lot of people who drive down this road will hear dogsbarking while nearing the bridge...only there are no dogs in the area!An old man lives not far from the bridge but and he claims he does notown any dogs. Legend also has it that on Friday the 13th you can see anapparition of a gnome with glowing red eyes climbing up an old dead treenear the bridge. A very spooky place indeed.

Here aresome Stories i received via E-mail

A story from *Alesha* who lives near thebridge

Ihonestly don't think the bridge is "haunted"...but I do agree thatit's a creepy bridge. The only other rumor about the bridge that I'veheard besides people dying there is that if you drive to the middle ofthe bridge and shut off your car that you won't be able to start itback up again, but I seriously doubt that's true. In fact, if iremember correctly, we've tried it...and probably almost 10 years or soago me and my friend's aunt went down underneath the bridge and saw ahuman skull with freakin' bright green hair, it scared us so we ranback up.....but the bright green hair gives it away that it was apractical joke.....there are always parties going on down there and i'msure someone did that messing around.....There was another time someoneput a dead deer in a tree (but it was low to the ground) and that wason the other side of the bridge from where the murder tookplace......anyway, that's all i got......good luck with your site.

Hello again! Matt and I are here to sharewith you a frightening experience of ours that happened at a placeknownaround here as "Enocks Knob".

Enocks Knob is a very old bridge on a dirt roadin the middle of nowhere almost. Its location is between Washington andNew Haven, MO. Matt and I have heard numerous stories about this placeand one night we decided to check it out for ourselves to see if it wasall true.

First here is the stories related to thishauntedbridge: Rumor has it a man committed suicide by jumping off the bridgeinto the lake below, there may have been two suicides I cant remember. There was also a little boy that fell through the bridge (a very longtimeago when it was not sturdy), supposedly this boys spirit haunts thelakebelow the bridge and can be seen sometimes late at night swimming inthewaters. Rumor is that his spirit sometimes appears as a serpent or someother kind of creature. The hole the boy fell through is still on thebridge, you can actually see the hole even though it looks like someone hastriedto board it up.

Then I heard was that sometimes while on thebridgeyou can hear dogs barking...but there are supposedly no dogs out there. My friend Liz knows the only two people who live on the road and theydon'thave dogs! (plus they dont live very close to the bridge maybe like amileaway or so).

The last few rumors where that if you chant"demondog" three times on the bridge you will either see glowing red eyesappearin the woods or you will see an apparition of a headless dog with only3 legs. Anyway moving on to our encounter! Matt and I went out to thebridgewith our friends Mike and Leslie. (this was our 2nd time out there, thefirst time nothing happened). When we got to the bridge Matt, Mike andI got out of the car to roam the bridge. It was very cold and the airwassilent, there was no breeze..no noise, complete and utter silence! Thatwas eerie enough for me.

We were only out there for like a minute or twowhen this earsplitting cry broke the silence of the night. It soundedfaraway, yet very close. That scared me enough to get back in the car withLeslie. Matt and Mike stayed on the bridge and Mike was acting like itwas just our imagination. (he is a skeptic). After a few minutes theycamerunning back to the car and Matt drove really fast off the bridge andbackonto the dirt road. While we were heading home Matt and Mike told usthatwhile it was just them two out on the bridge they started hearing thisgrowling sound coming from underneath the bridge. Then they said itseemedto go from under the bridge to the woods nearby (really fast). All thistime they heard no footsteps or running through the leaves. They saiditwas quiet for a few seconds then started back up again and it soundedlikeit was coming from all sides. Matt described it as a very low pitchscreamthat resembled that of a bull.

When it sounded like it was just getting closerthats when they decided to come back to the car and get the hell out ofthere. We decided not to go back for awhile....but we did anyway andthisis our last encounter and it scared us enough to really not go backtherefor awhile...maybe not at all. We decided to visit the bridge one lasttime, it was just Matt and I.

We drove down the dirt road off of Hwy.100 andas we were turning onto Enocks Knob road we noticed the street sign wasgone completely. We shrugged it off and continued down towards thebridge, passing the only two homes and finally we were there. We drove over thebridge, turned the car around and parked near the end (where the bridgeends and the road meets). We were just sitting there listening to musicand talking when I noticed something in my side view mirror. Throughthered taillights I noticed what looked like a dark shadow coming up frombehind the car, at least thats what it looked like. I told matt to turnoff the music because I thought I just saw something and it was verysilent.I started getting chills badly. We didn't see anything else but both ofus(at the same time)heard the dogs barking. It started in low then gotreally loud. At first it sounded like it was coming from far away andina matter of seconds the noise was coming from right near the car, onthebridge, in the woods, I don't know. It sounded like it was coming fromall directions. Right when we decided to just drive off a car camespeedingup behind us. We figured it was just someone passing trough so Mattstartedto drive off down the dirt road. The barking seemed to instantly stopthemoment this car pulled up, it was strange. Along the road this car wastotally tailgating us, getting very very close. They had there lightsonso we couldn't make out who it was that was driving. Matt sped upalittleand we went around a curve and the other car had vanished into thinair! It was nowhere to be seen.

Matt slowed the car down(almost to a completestop)butthe road behind us was empty. ???? We were both shocked and verypuzzledby this. Especially because there was no way they could have turned offthe road onto another because its only one straight road. Their onlyoptionswere going into a ditch or off a cliff into the woods below! This roadhas a lot of sharp curves and small hills so unless that was aprofessionalrace car driver chasing us off the bridge then there was no way in hellthey could have just gone into reverse! And if they did then how didtheyvanish so quickly? Alot of questions were going through my mind.

We drove slowly down the road near the placewherethe Enocks Knob sign use to stand. Matt stopped the car and we bothlookedcarefully and noticed the sign laying in the ditch below. Matt got outand and went down into the ditch. I don't know why...I stayed in thecarbecause I had enough scares in one night! I noticed matt walking up thehill to where the sign once stood, I was getting ready to yell at himtojust come back and take me home but when I noticed the look on his faceI stopped. He came back to the car shaking and told me the signliterallylooked like it was gnawed or bit off. He said the bottom part of it wasstill in the ground(I couldn't have seen it from where I wassitting)Andas he recalls it really looked like it was either bitten or twistedoff. It seemed impossible to me because it was a steel sign. I don't knowwhatit is but there is something about that place that just makes my fleshcrawl every time I even think about it. I don't think I would want togoback.

We'll see, places like that strike me socuriousbut I think I have learned my lesson now! I have had my share of scaresand at least I can say I was there and that I saw what I saw and heardwhat I heard. So can Matt. If you live in the Washington/New Haven areaand would like to see the place for yourself then here are somedirections.Coming from Washington, MO drive straight on Hwy.100 towards new haven. You will pass over a bridge and almost right after the bridge on theleftside there is a stop sign(its visible from the highway)and a sign thatsays "Beouff Creek rd",turn down this road and about a mile down on theleft hand side is Enocks Knob Rd.

I don't know when someone will fix the sign.butlook out for it. Well drive up this road and you'll pass 2 houses andkeepdriving about 1 mile and you'll come across the bridge. Go with an openmind and be sure to keep your eyes and ears open. I wouldn't go alone.Thank you for taking your time reading this.

Enjoy!

I was on the websitereading about the different stories about Enochs Knob. I am from New Haven and know thebridge very well. Growing up we partied on the bridge several times.Occasionally we could hear what sounded like screams coming from the woods butwe never really saw anything out of the ordinary. As for the dogs barking, when you first turn onto Enochs, the first house on the right is home toatleast one dog that I know of. It's a beagle. Also, there are more than 2houses on that road, one of them belonging to a friend of mine. Justrecently my 2 sisters, mom, and I made 2 different trips to enochs afterdark to do some exploring ourselves. We tried the demondog trick whichdidn't work and we used our flashlights to explore the water below the bridge. We came up with nothing. Once again we could hear what seemed to bescreaming in the distance but that was all. We plan to make future trips and willbe taking pictures at night. The road sign had been replaced and wasstill there both times we went. if you receive any new info I would loveto hear it.

About three or four weeks ago, myself and eleven of my friends went to Enochs Knob Road Bridge. I know having that many people reduces the scare factor, but they keptinviting themselves. We drove to the bridge from 185 and turnedaround just before crossing. We parked facing back towards185. I kept a close eye on all eleven people to make sure noonewandered away to pull a prank. We walked all the way across thebridge, looked around and began walking back towards our cars. Aswe got 1/4 of the way across (3/4 of the way FROM our cars) we heard alound bang coming from the end of the bridge where our cars were. It was from the very edge of the bridge, not past it. We allfroze in silence. Then we heard what sounded like a rock beingknocked against metal coming from the same spot. We ran to ourcars and drove back to 185 and stopped. This was my idea and Iwasn't ready to leave just yet. After some convincing of theothers we decided to go back. We parked in the same spot asbefore and walked to the edge of the bridge. My friend Chris andI walked to my car to my camera. Just before we got to my car, wewere next a friends' car, we heard a humming noise and westopped. This humming noise began to circle around us. Weheard it from our left, then behind, then right, then in front, and tothe left again. This continued for about 20 seconds, and then thewind began to stir in a circular motion, but only where we werestanding. The leaves on the trees weren't moving, and none of ourfriends felt it. We ran back to our friends and just as we beganto tell them about it, one person said, "Holy Shit!" We alllooked up at the center top of the bridge. A white cirlce hadappeared. We watched as that cirlce dropped straight down to oureye level in a split second. It moved to our right and beganweaving in and out of the piers of the bridge towards us. Weturned on flashlights and pointed them at the cirlce and still only sawthe white cirlce. Nothing else. We then left and stopped ata gas station off Hwy 100. There were three middle-aged menstanding inside hanging out so I asked them if they knew of any hauntedplaces in the area. One mans eyes lit up and he said, "ENOCHSKNOB ROAD BRIDGE!" I pretended not to know about it and he toldme his own personal stories of going to the bridge. He said thatthe guy to fell from the bridge after climbing to the top had landed onthe bridge itself, about 3/4's of the way down it, from 185. Where we were standing when we heard the noises. He also told methat when he was my age (I'm 19) he partied there almost everyweekend. On the other side of the bridge there was a smalltwo-story house that had been abandoned for as long as he'd beenalive. Every so often, though, while out there partying, therewould be lit candles in all of the windows, and if you watched longenough you would see shadows of people walking by. One night, asthey all approached the house to turn their cars around they noticedthat the house was gone. Nobody walked to where it had been tofind out because it was too dark. But he went back the next dayand could see the roof sitting on the ground. Upon inspection herealized the house had sunk into the ground. The next week thecity demolished the house and regraded the land so you can't tell whereit is. I'm going back to the bridge tonight, and if anythinghappens I'll write again.

About a week or two ago a fewfriends of mine were talking about enocks knob. They were telling mehow colored people use to be hung there and there were 2 suicides and ababy died, Plus the death last year about the man and his car burning(they say it was over meth, and that there was once a meth lab nearthere). Well, I'm the kind of person that loves to hear about all ofthis scary stuff and I'm ready to do it but once we get there im notdoing nothing but shaking in my boots. It was about midnight when me,jamie, jarred, adam, tori, and big kenny decided to go to this place. itwas about a 45 minute drive from where we were staying so we got thereat almost 1 am. As we were pulling in where you can see the 3 tons Max.sign i started shaking and getting the chills. We decided we were goingto walk across the bridge so they got out. i was sitting in thebackseat by myself and tori and jarred were in the front of jarred'sexplorer. All three of us started to hear a man's voice moaning as ifhe were in pain. so I jumped in the front and as we settled down theexplorer felt as if it was being lifted on to 2 wheels! so i screamedquit shaking the car damn it! and it stopped. a few moments later wesaw three white figures walking towards the car and i told jarred, turnon the headlights so they can see (thinking it was kenny jamie andadam.) when the headlights came on the figures were gone and jamiekenny and adam were still across the other side of the bridge. since weturned on the headlights they got freaked out and ran back. we toldthem what happend. and they said when we heard you scream quit shakingthe car we were already on the bridge. so we all got freaked out andleft. They were telling me tori and jarred about what all happened onthe bridge. They said that there is a bright light in the water on theleft side of the bridge. It looks as if it is a star but there isnothing in the sky that could make that bright and big of a reflection. Then there are these blinking lights, they look as if they arelightning bugs but they are too big and to bright. as they get closerthe bridge they start to blink faster and faster. They said they hearda woman's voice cry from a distance and you could hear a group ofhumans walking in the woods. As the windows were getting foggy westarted seeing child size hand prints on our windows! they were toosmall to be any of ours! and As we crossed the bridge to leave, thedoor jamie was sitting next to unlocked 3 times. she kept locking itback. As we were leaving the boys finally decided to tell me and jamie,we were parked right where the man lain dead. The prints kept appearingeven though we werent on the bridge, and on jarred's window it saidhelp. that was the first night at enocks knob. and boy was it scary! The second time we went it wasabout a half an hour or hour from when we just returned. we left around2:20-2:30am so we would get there around the "devils hour"(3:00am) thistime it was only Me, Big Kenny, Little Kenny, Jacob, and Tori. As wepulled up to the same area.Tori said Kenny i have a really bad feelingabout this, the clock just hitting 3:06 am. Big Kenny said yeah I kindof am also. So we decided to leave, no one got out or anything. As wegot off the bridge and drove about a half a mile or so, we noticed atruck behind us with it's brights on,and it was following us so wethought it was a sherrif or something so as we started to slow down itstarted to speed up and was right on our tail end! as we turned rightwe saw its bright headlights follow us and then it justdissapeared.there were no other roads or anything, The third night we went out there itold myself I was DEFINATLY getting out of this car and walking acrossthe bridge. I had to see for myself. It was Me, Big Kenny,Jamie,Joey,Little Kenny and maybe another person or so. Anyways. As I stepped outof the car i was shaking so bad I could hardly stand up. All I rememberis seeing human figures standing on the outside of the bridge. I keptmy Head down almost in tears. As i walked to the sides of the bridgethere really was 2 big shining lights in the water looking as if theywere moving around! You could hear movement in the woods.and see theblinking lights.(you always see the blinking lights)So we went home.this time we didnt see any markings on the windows. but as we werepulling at...a dog comes running to the car barking and chasing us.after hearing about the "demon dogs" we were all pretty freaked out. The fourth night we went out there,We took a lot of people! It was Me, big kenny, little kenny, steven, garrin, joey, jamie, and joyce. Now, if you know joyce, you know she isa very religious person. everyone kept getting mad at her because shewouldnt stop talking in tounge and praying, i held on to jarred's armand we were about to walk across the bridge to the car when we saw awoman walk from one side to the other and look back at us, and then shedissapeard.that was the most that happend. me and jamie road in thetrunk on the way home. and if i remember correctly i think another dogshowed up.that was crazy.
The fifth night we went out there,it was me big kenny little kenny, joey, jarred, and i think adam.Wewent out there to scare Tori and a few of his buddies who were goingafter work.we waited in the field on the left right after you get offof the bridge for about 30 minutes.finally they showed up but we didntscare them. but there were ALOT of people there. but nothing reallyhappened. i wasnt scared one bit. i didnt feel anything or nothing.sowe went home.
The last night we went outthere, the Sixth night, it was only me jamie big kenny johnny matt anddebrah. I didnt really want to get out of the car...but i kind ofdid.Debrah did NOT want to get out "fo sho" lol.(isj) anyways. bigkenny jamie and johnny got out first.they were out there for quite along time. when they came back i went out and there were so many ofthose blinking lights! i mean everywhere! they would go over the bridgeunder the bridge ontop of the bridge so close to the bridge, but theywould not go inside the bridge. they would start blinking fast andmoving fast and everything. And thats the last time, I was at EnocksKnob.
So in conclusion. Events thathappend while i was present were things like; blinking lights, carmovement, handprints and writing on the windows, figures, noises, chasings (by trucks and dogs), disapearences, and appearences. It was truly the scariest thing i have ever witnessed.I truly believein spirits and in hauntings. so If anything has happend to you atEnock's bridge. please share. I love to read and compare!

Enjoy!
