wind in the trees

"Meanwhile, let us have a sip of tea. The afternoon glow is brightening the bamboos, the fountains are bubbling with delight, the soughing of the pines is heard in our kettle. Let us dream of evanescence, and linger in the beautiful foolishness of things."-- Okakura Kakuzo, Book of Tea (1906)

Winter's Light is revised to page 235... oh, no, it's terrible. I spoke too soon. Everything is good about it except the romance part. It is so badly formed. Madeleine is such a practical, unromantic person... her scenes with Anton are just not believable. And he is brooding... but not in an interesting way. In a way the characters are just too realistic to be exciting. I think I have gone too far because it reads more like a psychology treatise... discussing why Anton is the way that he is... and it is not very exciting...

On a better note I watched my first DS tape. Tres fun! Josette is hilarious. I found myself laughing at her from the beginning. Andre says, I am Andre du Pres and this is my daughter Josette! And then Josette squeaks, Oui! Coming from Kathryn Leigh Scott, who is the antithesis of French, it was hilarious. She can't decide whether she is a Yankee or a Frenchwoman throughout the whole story.

And I saw Lara Parker's very first episode... funny how her hair has changed! It was much darker at the beginning. I guess that she must have dyed it later on. Josette and Angelique have an extended interchange in French as well. I wish a real French person would read it. I don't know, but it sounded like they were really butchering it. It made for a great afternoon though. I am ready to put my agonizing disappointment in Winter's Light behind me...
