Satursday, august 20th 2006 around 12, Jean-Philippe Lalonde ring at my door to go to the 6ième de 1000.
In the car Catherine and Julien are patientely waiting. I'm the only one of the group who have been to a
"X de 1000", I have been to the thirs and fourth before. I succeed to place my gear in the car (my
backpack on my knees) and off we go.
Many trafic jams results in the fact that trhe trip took twice the time it should have but when we
finally arrive there was still good places to put our tents and enough time to install ourselves before
the start of the activities.
We arrived in time to help to put together the pavillon who will be very usefull before the end of the
day.
DumDum want to be in the picture!
Homebrewers getting ready.
GonZobeer take a short break.
René Huard officially launched the "6ième de 1000" in front of an attentive crowd.
It was time to put the BBQ on the fire.
René told us during the opening speach of the importance of releave, he and the other organisors
are all starting new business. It's important for the future of the "X de 1000" that new blood
take part in this wonderfull yearly event to garanty it'S future.
It's started for a new year!
Sudenly, it started to pour but that didn't succeed to diminish the enthousiasm of the Bièrophoux.
The BBQ keept on cooking whitout regards to the rain but the temperature was a bit low at some point.
A whole in the clouds allowed us to take the traditional group picture.
The competition was nearly over so it was time to gather the votes.
The BBQ helped to put some heat in some people bodies and the ambiance was good despite the rain. Some
people showed very graphically the fact that they had enough of camera flashes.
Finally it was time to give the prises, you can see on the second picture the winner of the beginners
category. He was alone in the category but his beer was quite good and he diserved his prise. the future
is safe.
Thierry listening for his category, his beer in the free category won second place. the winner of the
free category brewed an Old Ale but had left before the prises where given.
The winner of the imposed category was Derek Baragiotta who brewed a Russian Imperial Stout. Sadly he
didn't have enough for the taste of all who kept going for seconds so when I finally was at his table he
didn't have any left, it was my fault because I choose to taste all beers in order and kept the souts for
last and I don't drink fast... We can see him receving his trophy representing a "fourquet" from the
hands of René Huard.
All things must end. The morning after it was time to fold the tents. After some sausages cooked over
the fire, cofee and a bit of streatching to replace some body parts after a too short and watered night
(in most sense of the term, I'm one of the few who didn't have water in his tent).
