For the Teacher
This website was designed for math teachers to use in
grades 5-7 to help create a Math Hook for the Introduction of a Math lesson.
Sometimes used as an Anticipatory Set, these mini-problems describe a situation
in everyday life that needs a math solution. They were primarily
created from TransAmerica Travel
situations, math problems encountered by the Allnutt family while
traveling across the US, Canada, Europe, and Africa. As a sixth grade
Math teacher in Northern Virginia, Mrs. Allnutt uses these lessons at the
beginning of class several times a week. Comments and suggestions
are welcome from teachers who try out the Everyday Math mini-lessons.
