I want on the Island!

08.27.2004

We stayed overnight at the Motel in Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver to expedite our journey to Nanaimo. Esther was creative and used the coffee table and a chair for a bed. Needless to say, she woke up with some aches...

The motel room was sooo HOT!

Mom, Dad and I had to share the Queen bed. Why does Dad snore?!

BC Ferry service from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, Nanaimo. Esther needs her large Timmy's!

The entire trip was about 1.5 hours.

Vancouver Skyline.

The Dingy Dock Pub is the only floating Pub in Canada - you have to access it using this boat from the Nanaimo Harbour!

Mom and Esther strolling along the 4km of boardwalk on the harbourfront.

Dad was parked outside the London Drugs fixing the little problem we encountered while Esther took over the wheel at the start of the Coquihalla highway...oopsy!

We took this opportunity to explore the "Harbourside City".

There was Fresh Seafood (frozen?)...

These Zuchinni are HUGE! Many times bigger than the zuchinni we grew in our garden that I thought was already massive... see this page for reference.

We're off!

lol, this is just hilarious. Go Shell...

Exploring some rocks.

Esther's Statue Tour continues.

The Zephyr was a ship that sailed from Newcastle Island (off the East coast of Vancouver Island, very close to Nanaimo) with blocks of newly quarried sandstone intended for the San Francisco Mint... These stones were recovered from the sunken ship after being buried for 100 years.100 years

Voted the Best Bakery in Nanaimo - really good bars!

Esther and Mom - Esther had really good quiche and mom had a baked cheesecake slice. Delicious.

Close encounter of the 1st kind...seaweed...mmm

Driftwood!

Piper's Lagoon Park in Nanaimo.

Show me what you've got

More crazy seaweed!

Esther, Mom and Daddy.

Close encounter of the 2nd kind...with Kelp!

Daddy grew a tail?!

Mom tries to catch a Jellyfish.

After the Piper's Lagoon Park, we drove to the Pacific Shores Resort & Spa (down the long and windy road that never ended...) and got the keys to our condo - right on Rathtrevor beach near Parksville. That night, we enjoyed another hot tub - the outdoor facility in the resort. What a treat!

I took a pic of the moom from the top of the truck!
