Building simple,
decent houses with
God's people in need |
As a new millennium dawns, come explore the possibilities of affordable housing. Join
12 Portuguese families as they work with volunteers from around the world to build decent
homes, where children can anticipate a future as rich as Portugal's past.
In Braga, Portugal, several volunteers formed a Habitat for Humanity affiliate. In 1999
we partnered with one family and finished their house. This year, a leap of faith, we
decided to start construction on 12 homes in response to the plight of families in
horrific living conditions. Our hope is to see these families in simple, decent,
affordable and healthy homes by next winter.
| Families were invited to a community meeting last fall to learn how they
could partner with Habitat for Humanity, Barga this year. In January numerous families
submitted applications. Our willing volunteers visited their homes and 12 candidate
families were selected. Now Angela Cristina, a three-year-old who suffers from chronic
bronchitis, waits to move out of a rental with thick mold and mildew in the walls. |
