Brief Narrative on Mark Dagley
Mark Dagley was born in 1957 and raised in Washington D.C. In 1979, after studying sculpture and painting at the Corcoran School of Art and the Boston Museum School, Dagley moved to New York. His first solo exhibition took place in 1986, at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery. Paintings from this exhibition were purchased by the German chocolate manufacturer Dr. Peter Ludwig and by the Eli Broad Family Foundation. During the 1980’s, Dagley exhibited frequently in Amsterdam, Madrid, Düsseldorf, Milan and many other European cities. In 1993 Dagley had his first Museum exhibition at the Kunstverein St. Gallen, Switzerland. In the same year, Dagley received his first major commission from Hoffman/LaRoche Pharmaceuticals in Switzerland: two wall reliefs, nine-foot square, which were installed in their new office building outside of Basel. In 1994 a work was purchased by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid. Two years later, a painting from Dagley’s second (1987) New York exhibition was added to the collection of the Museum des Beaux Arts, La Chaux de Fonds Switzerland.

Some of Dagley’s most recent exhibitions have been: “OP at UP” at UP & CO New York, “Color and Paint” at the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland, and his third solo show with the Galerie Hans Strelow, Düsseldorf.

In 1999 Dagley’s work was included in “Post Hypnotic” at the University Galleries in Normal, Illinois which travels to the McKinney Avenue Contempoary, Dallas, June 12-July 25 1999; the Contempoary Arts Center, Cincinnati, Sept. 4-Nov.7 1999; the Atlanta Collage of Art Gallery, Jan.28-Mar. 12, 2000; the Chicago Cultural Center, Apr.22-June 25, 2000, the Tweed Museum, University of Minnesota, Duleth, Feb.6-Apr. 2001.
