Nina Florence Jackson 1900 - 1986

Nina Jackson in 1902

Nina Jackson was born on the 4th of August, 1900, the eldest of two daughters of Horace B. Jackson and Ada Elizabeth Odgers. She had a very full life, which included a privileged childhood, several trips to Europe and around the world, two marriages and she raised four stepsons.

Thoughout her life, Nina Jackson lived in considerable comfort in a number of fine homes, and owned a car for most of her life. Her two marriages accounted for only a small proportion of her adult life, and she had the normal status of being a single woman of independent means.

This short exploration of her life covers a number of interludes. These include:-

  • Her childhood and teenage years in Perth.
  • A family trip to Europe in 1924.
  • A visit to New Zealand in about 1926.
  • A most excellent European Grand Tour with her father in 1930.
  • Marriage to J.J.Poynton 1937 - 38.
  • The war years spent at Bellaranga, the Poynton family property.
  • Marriage to John Orde Poynton and life in Adelaide.
  • Later life in Perth, raising Robert and Mark Poynton.

Nina died of cancer in early 1986, after a long illness.
