George Spencer Compton was a sone of Henry Compton and Jane Tozer of Paignton, Devon.
He was the father of Edward Alfred Frederick Compton
and grandfather of G.Spencer Compton. He was born in Totnes, Devon,
on 3 April, 1833. He married Elizabeth Ley, daughter of Edward Ley, in Piccadilly on 2 Nov, 1856.
The couple emigrated to Melbourne, Australia shortly after their marriage.

The family moved to Western Australia in about 1869, where George was employed as an
importer and commercial agent, then accountant and later Clerk of Courts in Fremantle.
Amateur musician and conductor, and presented Handel's "Messiah" in 1886.
George Spencer Compton died in Fremantle on 14 September, 1888.
